My grandfather was a mechanic his whole life. Drove hard body Nissan trucks and in his golden years settled down with a nice Grand Cherokee. RIP Pop.

Had a 98 Jeep Cherokee that had 500, 000+ miles on it and sold it. It's still going strong.

Love my '99 Cherokee with 227, 000 miles on my 4.0 inline six. Glad to hear a decent approval from Scotty!

My dad used to have a 2002 Grand Cherokee Limited V8 when I was 10 years old, and it was a brilliant car. Yes, the V8 meant it was a TREMENDOUS gas hog, but it had some of the most comfortable seats of ANY car I had ever sat in.

I remember when we went to pick it up back in July 2010, and from the moment I sat down on the seats for the first time, I was in heaven as they were just oh so comfy... The Americans really know how to make proper car seats!

We even went on a caravan holiday in it to Great Yarmouth in August 2010, and I remember watching one of my Top Gear DVDs on the way there on the aftermarket DVD headrests we had installed in it. The V8 also had plenty of power for towing our caravan on the 127-mile journey to the campsite.

Had an 03 Grand Cherokee with the straight 6. The engine is the strongest part of the car.

My family has a 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 305k miles with the original engine and trans. We've hit 3 deer in it and it keeps going. Most realiable vehicle we've ever had.

I've had my 04 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L for just over 10 years. 204, 000 miles right now and still runs like the day I bought it (used and garage kept at 52k). Aside from routine maintenance, I've had the starter replaced, TP sensor replaced, and a new front drive shaft put on. I drive it every day and will continue to until she finally gives in.

I remember my first week owning it I was pumping gas and a complete stranger walks up to me, he must have been in his 70s. Asked me "Is that one of those jeeps with that 4.0?" I was like yes sir I just bought it. He said hold on to it, they don't make em like that anymore lol

I have a 2005 GC, 3.7L V-6. Bought it in 2006. Has 130, 000 miles on it - it's a daily driver. Oil is changed every 3000 miles; runs like new and is very dependable. I've never bought any of my vehicles based on fuel mileage.

I owned a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited trim with the 6 cylinder engine. I only had two mechanical problems but both were pretty simple to replace. After 4 sets of tires, 2 sets of brakes and one set of shocks from normal wear and tear and 210, 000 miles I felt I wanted something newer. I honestly felt bad trading it in. I hope the new owner got as much pleasure and reliability from it as I did.

i KEEP READING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH 2014-15-16-17 IS No transmission problems at all until after 15+ years and then nothing major. Most all problems have been simple to fix. I still love it :-)

Got a 1996 Grand Cherokee 4.0 closing in on 300k miles. A little valve ticking and a few pesky aging suspension issues here and there but still going strong.

I have a late 80's Cherokee XJ with the 4.0L High Output, sitting at 253100 miles and it runs like a top! Starts every time I ask it to. This has been second only to my 92 Previa that lasted just about 300K

3 reasons I watch Scotty's videos:

No. 3
Mechanic lore

No. 2
His honesty

No. 1 (and most important)
The selection of random animal pictures illustrating his laughs! Hah

I have put over 100K on my '03 GC with the HO 4.7 (it has over 200K on it now). It's my daily driver, and my weekend warrior.

4.0l is one of the best engines ever mass produced. they got rid of it because they weren't selling jeeps. because they were still on the road
