It's important to also interview the company to make sure they are a good fit. So many training seminars and articles talk about how to interview well, but don't touch on what to ask and what to look for in a good company.

So true. Your personality must "fit" into the other. We always look for the closest fit to us. 🙏 We need this to feel better, safer, and comfortable with the other being. Like a piece of the puzzle fitting. 🙏

I often find the hiring process for companies pretty off putting. Maybe it’s because I’m young but when you know you have intangibles and systems that will eventually beat out people with more experience, it’s hard to swallow

The coffee date is exactly how you introduce strong bias and miss great employees because you won't date them. Some of my best employees were people I'd not want to hang out with. Now, being upfront about culture and the rest of your message is great. I think vital, in fact.

If this is so, I guess it’ll take about six months to have a grasp on who you are really dealing with.

When I did hire, I found this to be true. I started to become disillusioned by the screening process.

Ha! Maybe that’s why I’m single still!

Thanks Simon. I appreciate this knowledge about a better way to hire. Now I think and feel more competent and capable about the hiring process and myself being hired. Perhaps with your great videos I might one day become a person doing the hiring myself!

I would literally die to work for you. Your perspectives have changed my life not for once but over time. It changed me into someone who uses leadership first and for all as a tool to let others grow. To let others explore their potentials, to let them re-evaluate their beliefs. All that being supported by giving them the trust, that they dont need to be scared at all, no matter what happens.

Unfortunately, here in Germany, where I grew up in live, even here in progressive Berlin, this mindset is so extremely rare. Makes me even gladder to have found you, Simon. I wish so much, that one time in our both lifetimes, our paths will cross, best case on a sunny day on a bench with a good cup of coffee. Thank you for everything.

Recruitment with honesty, yes that is the way to prepare people to get ready for another working journey feeling it is what they have been looking for.

Getting your interview out to find out more about them, not just to job prospects but to know who they are, I think is one of the thing Interviewers may take..Thanks Simon

The recent hiring regulations in many places make it really hard to do this, as PII / personal life is often banned in questions as something you shouldn't ask, and the generale rule is that the interview should be super professional/job oriented.

Simon's lessons are always so simple that are genius. But is also sad that someone has to state the obvious

That's how you assess for fit! :) Yes. To improve hiring - assessment practices, need look no further than other "firsts" like first dates.
Having coffee out of the workspace helps take the edge off... with each other but around others, neutral zone - not on anyone's turf. Makes it easier to move from "impressing to being."
Also, helps curb the tendency to go through a resume line by line as if all someone has to offer can be found in a couple of pages or grasped within a couple of hours.
Great tip!

I think working for you would be a safe and growth filled opportunity. Thank you for encouraging others to be honest in what they represent xxx

And vise versa - this is spot on for the job seeker as well.

At it's core the idea resonates with me, but caution: this also a bit idealistic. Questions in that "coffee interview" that can point to age, familial status, religion, and so on are off-limits. These controls are in place to ensure that hiring decisions are not made for the wrong reasons. For example, choosing not to hire a single parent because of concerns that they will be pulled away from work.
