Before I even watched this, my one thought is "Australia probably already has them."

Is no one gonna mention the fact that he said "fuck" in the "failed take" at the end?

Giant insects happened before, during the Carboniferous period 330, 000, 000 years ago like said in this video so cool, it's my favorite prehistory zone. Luckily we don't have as much oxygen anymore for them to sustain big bodies...

insects size is also limited by their lack of skeletons: they only have an exoskeleton that protects them really well, but unlike our internal skeletons, doesn't give support to the organs --> they'd be squashed by the weight of their own organs

Gravitation also affects the size of bugs, cut the gravity in half, double the oxygen, and you can get ants up to about 5'.

What if the only actual mutation in the Rad Roach was that it got lungs? Problem solved. Also an even more slight mutation would be if the spiracles gained musculature. Now the air is forced through rather than relying on passive air flow. Also that modification could be applied to all bugs without having to create a chest cavity to allow for a new air sac and diaphragm system.

A dog sized insect would be terrifying.

So Ant Man's daughter's pet is going to die of asphyxiation. Great. Thanks.

This is related to something I've wondered...Could you grow giant insects in a terrarium of sorts that has higher oxygen procentage amount in the air? How big could you grow bugs in air that's nearly 100% oxygen, as long as they have a stable source of food? And could you then attach oxygen canisters to their back to to take them outside for a walk?

Minor Correction: Kyle said "anthropleura" and wrote "antropleura" but I'm fairly sure the millipede he's talking about is "arthropleura."

Not an insect, but the gaint isopod (a gaint cousin to the woodlouse) is roughly the size of a cat.
