why is it that you and other coaches feel that the model of functional over-reaching/ general high stress period followed by deload/low stress period is the best way to increase work capacity? Anecdotally, I have seen that lifters can increase work capacity by increasing their volume and keeping it steady for long periods even if they appear to have difficulty recovering at first. I see this typically in novices who have just started getting into more serious programs and also in more advanced lifters trying very difficult programs such as smolov and the bulgarian method, and the desired adaptaion still seems to occurr without this week to week variance between high/low stress weeks. Just want to know what your thoughts are on this.
