GROWING STRAWBERRIES INDOORS FOR THE WINTER!

We picked up some strawberries for our new gardens the other day but with near freezing temperatures in the near forecast I have no choice but to grow them indoors for the winter! Growing them indoors will be pretty simple and i shouldnt see too much growth out of them because the strawberries will still be in a semi dormant state due to the lighting period and cooler temperatures they will be subject to in our basement.

I will have our grow lights on for 6-8 hours a day depending on how my plants are all doing, this amount of light will help trick the strawberries into thinking its winter. As for watering, the strawberries will only need to be watered once every 2-3 weeks. All in all they wont take too much care to grow indoors and I am excited to share how they do with you all!

Help us with our mission to feed the world by teaching millions how they can grow their own food! Thank you for your continued love and support!

I just spent the past 10 or so minutes in the dark freezing my butt off replanting my "yogurt pot" summer strawberries from the greenhouse and put them all together in a larger green flower pot full of new compost and a small bit of fish bone meal. I have no idea if they will live through the winter but I will keep an eye on them. They were grown from seed too so I am proud of myself lol.

That was good. I can hardly wait to see these next time they're up. OMG Strawberries are awesome! I used to have a 16ft x 8ft bed on the east side of the house, just below the ash drop. I kept it loaded with strawberries! No one knows how much more wonderful they are when they're HOMEGROWN. Godspeed! Be blessed.

I’ve been keeping my lights on way too long. I started some bare roots with 18 hours of light. They are growing but the old leaves were getting scorched. I am going to cut them back to 8 to 12 hours and see how they do.

Hi just a question, is pollination not going to be a problem growing strawberries indoors ?

Great video. Straight to the point buddy!

Question. I grew the mess out of strawberries a few years back. Outside of course. With a baby on the way, I’m always looking for ways to save money and become more self dependent. Could one grow fruits and veggies year round inside with a grow light? I’m thinking of converting one of my rooms to a “grow room” and would love to grow potatoes, strawberries, etc no matter the temperature outside or season. Thanks!

I'm throwing these indoors in A-tent with other plants that require 18 to 20 hours of light. Do you think I could overwinter these with this much light and then put them Outside in the Spring. My goal was to take the $20 single plant and be able to have 4 or 5 outside outside in the bed is it next year

Am I mistaken in thinking that sand should be mixed in 1/3rd of the soil blend. I have had very good resukts incorporating sand into my strawberry plants. My gravdfather had a green thumb and told me that sand is a MUST or they simply won’t survive properly.

So did this work after one year or was it mainly the plant and no fruit?

Nice. Does these plants produce berries throughout the year or for a particular period (2-3 months/year) ?

Hi dude, just wondering how many hours of light you give them per day. Thanks for the vid!

Why not just cover them with straw and leave them outside if they aren’t going to produce?

Strawberry’s need frost hours in order to produce, they won’t make fruit without it 😥
