Lave watched "Midsommar" and now he's telling you what he thought about it. Ari Aster follows up "Hereditary" with "Midsommar" where things get a bit Cult-y! But is it any good?

Other films with the same unsettled feeling, disturbing violence, sexual overtones, stunning cinematography, and symbolism with varied interpretations:
1. The Wicker Man (1973), 2. Suspiria (2018), 3. The Neon Demon (2016), 4. Mother! (2017), 5. The Witch (2016), 6. Enemy (2013), 7. The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017). What else?

I feel pretty much the exact same as you. I feel like if you're a fan of Ari Aster's cinematography and sound usage, you'll love this movie. I describe Hereditary as palatable for a horror fan with a LOT of anxiety and uneasiness. I describe this movie as Hereditary without the supernatural aspect with the anxiety/uneasiness cranked to 100. I'd give it an 8.5/10. I started the movie anxious and ended it going, "Holy shit."

A good movie. At times really brought me back to a holy mountain. A 60s and 70s mind fuck. A lot of Easter eggs. But This is not a horror movie. This is a psychological thriller.

Thanks Lave. I saw it twice in the theatre. Definitely one of my top 10 movies of the year!

Great review. Would love to watch one with spoilers too if you make one. So much to talk about!

I agree it was quite a long film but it's so well shot and very pleasing on the eye that I can easily overlook that. Very good film :)

I absolutely adored it. Such an overall masterful film.

I loved Hereditary, but I found this a chore to get though. It was beautifully shot, but overly long, self indulgent, and unengaging. I really wanted to like it, but definitely didn't.

In my opinion hereditary is so much more enjoyable than midsummer especially for horror fans. Midsummer is more of a drama breakup than a horror. Not hating on midsomer it is a beautifully shot movie with one outstanding actress just wasn't for me and I'm a huge horror fan

I like the film but it is as good as the reviews. There are so many plots holes. But my real issue is that we are supposed to appreciate Dani who had a trauma but she is not lovable either. Refused to listens to Pelle’s traumatic story twice, not interested other than her own story.

It was unsettling but the film had no surprises or twist or changes in the character throughout the film. It continued pretty much how we expected.

Very disappointed

Question and spoiler alert.

Do you think Christian got raped? I don't believe so. He walked right into her vagina. None of it was forced. I'm asking because a lot of people are calling it rape.
