In his followup to the 2018 horror genre-breaking film 'Hereditary', Ari Aster brings a drama focusing on relationships, grief and loss with 'Midsommar'. Is it a worthy effort or does it fall prey to the sophomore slump? Thanks for checking out my spoiler-free review.

You are really good at this. That is the sort of non spolier review I needed and enjoyed. Will be seeing this tonight.

I honestly find it hard to not compare this with Hereditary. I mean it sticks with you, and it is brilliantly made. It won’t get out of my mind

You're underrated as a reviewer, I was looking for something to hype me up/ give me a hint of the quality of the movie and you are doing that.

Best non-spoiler review on the internet, hands down. Informative, short but with plenty of enough details. Just realized the movie takes place in my home-province of Hälsingland in Sweden. I've actually been to the real Hårga area. 😱🙃 😁

Agreed, Florence’s performance was excellent, she conveys emotions so strongly. 🙌🏻

Engaging aesthetics, eerie ambience and twisted ending. Hope Ari keeps up the good work! 😃

Great review! This movie was such an experience, much like Hereditary was. I was blown away by the cinematography here. It was great in his last film too, but the bright daylight scenes made it all the more noticeable this time around. The thematic layering of this movie was also fantastic, but the plot itself was a little straight-forward and I definitely agree that this could've used a little trimming. As much as I loved the visuals, it did get a little self-indulgent with its lingering at times and really didn't need to be two and a half hours long. Can't wait to see what Ari Aster has in store for us next!

Edit: And as far as the best place for a summer vacation... I've got to be a good Mainah and say Acadia National Park. But not the tourist-laden Bar Harbor side (at least not in the summer)... Schoodic Point, for sure.

My favourite film of the year. One of my favourite directors out there. Well done Mr Aster, for two years in a row - I’ve loved both of your movies!

Ari has solidified himself in my book. I like how the emotion was "bam" in your face and you can pretty much tell who has the problem from the start, compared to hereditary.

I agree the visuals were awesome, I enjoyed the LSD trip effect. The music definitely causes an anxious feeling... I like how he uses family and mental health in his films to tell realistic horror (i mean all this shit could and does happen) which adds to the uneasy feeling.

I think her boyfriend was over the codependency of the relationship but stayed due to the death of her family, sense of obligation.

I wish they would have went indepth with the feud between the two guys wanting to do their thesis.

It's impressive to me that Ari Aster has created 2 of the more disturbing horror films the last 2 years haha although the film was a slow burn it really did keep me engaged waiting to see how messed up the cult was and it delivered and then some. I hope Florence Pugh gets some recognition for her performance both her and Lupita Nyong'o have given us some of the best performances this year. Great review!

Seriously cannot wait to see this and we’re going in with only 50% expectations! It’ll still be way better than 100% of the other horror crap out this year!

I think I learned after Midsommar that maybe Ari Aster is not my cup of tea as a horror Director. But glad you enjoyed it.

I loved it. At the end it left me feeling very uneasy. Like I need to run to church, scrub my body with anointing oil and repent for watching all those evils. 😂😂😂

It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I really dug it. 8/10 imo.

There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it.
This is perfect example of alfred hitchcocks quote.

Im watching this on Tuesday, hopfully alone agan. My coolest vacation personally was to spend my summer after 8th grade was to visit my cousins, aunt, and uncle in Hawaii for the summer (3 months). After my vacation was coming to an end. My dad's naval ship arrived in Pearl Harbor. The whole next week, All the sons of the "officers" were allowed to take a "Tiger" cruise from Pearl Harbor to the naval base in Alameda. As the ship was leaving the whole crew had to stand all around the perimeter of the ship's deck. We had to stay there until we could barely see land. There was a day where.a metal keg was launched out into ocean and the whole group of kids including myself were allowed to shoot some guns. I myself shot the rotating .50 cal machine gun turret which was fired with a brake handle from a bike. I also got to shoot an M40 single shot grenade launcher which looks like a single barrel shotgun. There was a guy htat had to brace my shoulder, and the kick of it still punched my shoulder. That was/would be the best vacation IMO.

I have just watched it. Is it an accurate description of Swedish culture and influence today?
