Soil Vs Water Pothos Propagation Experiment ( Controversial Outcome ) The results are not like you would expect to see like some of the previous pothos propagation experiments. This one I found to be more focused on user error and mistake forgiveness.

When you soil propagate you need to ensure that the soil is continuously moist for 3 weeks and leave it in a North facing window after such time... treat it like a normal plant. Never done me young I currently have 2 hanging pots propagating with 20 cuttings in each. They are have roots. :)

when you propagate in soil, make sure to let the ends callous over! Soil has a lot of bacteria that can cause rot when it comes in contact with the open cut wound. I've found that propagating mature leaves has a higher success rate, not sure why tho.

I've had similar results from trying to propogate in soil and I agree you really have to be on top of it!

you should do a tap water vs rain/demineralised water vs water with root hormones comparison vid! would be interesting. thanks again for another great vid

I think you’d have better results with the soil if you placed them under a dome to provide higher humidity. With no direct contact with water, and no roots, the cutting are drying up and end up wilting. I put a humidity dome over all of my African violet leaf propagations until they develop roots, and never encounter wilted leaves.

I totally agree with your conclusion because I’ve experienced both and water always yields better results for me. Great video 💚

thanks, this video just reminded me to water my pothos into which i recently added some new cuttings straight to soil 😬

I would do the soil one again - it seems like you let the soil dry out. When propagating in soil, you definitely want to "over water" them and keep the soil wet for weeks. Once you see a new leaf growing, I would start to water them as normal

so cool that you show us the whole process although I would use water anyway just to see the roots growing haha <3 thanks again for a cool video

Thank you for this interesting video. I have 3 pothos grown in water since several years, and they are growing very well. I never put on any fertilizer, I just change the water every week. I also grow one in the sol, but I planted them when they have made enough roots in the water, they also grow very well.
Pothos is a very easy plant to grow.

I would love to have pothos floating at the top of my aquarium, so I'm looking into a lot of water-grown advice. Thanks for making this!

In water, pearling happens when the plants photosynthesize. It is especially high when they photosynthesize a lot and the water is saturated in oxygen. Healthy plants produce oxygen.
I use those signs to tell if a cytting will be viable or dead.

I always start my pothos in water...that first check where the roots are just starting is the point I would transition to soil, but usually with a good amount of perlite mixed in. If they are struggling or I may not be able to keep up watering they need to have some sort of humidity dome, that way they won’t dry out as quickly. But I usually don’t need it with pothos. But I think that it would have been better to put the soil in a nursery pot with proper holes, and added perlite.

With soil propagation you water the soil well and then cover the top with a clear plastic bag. That keeps in the humidity for a long time. You can also use a milk jug, cut it open most of the way around hamburger style but leave a small part attached, put holes in the bottom, then in the bottom put dirt and cuttings or seeds and flip the top on after watering as a humidity doem. You can also put the jug in a plate or tray of water to keep up the moisture.

I have some of my pothos cuttings in soil but I’m using a water wicking pot (one of those ones from the big box store) I have it perched up in a deep saucer and I fill that with water once a week or every few days. I did see some rotting of one node but the others seem to be doing pretty ok. Maybe something like that which would make the moisture more consistent would give better results

I would love to see propagation videos on a variety of philodendron.

I start the pothos cuttings in my aquarium then transition to soil, always keep the soil very moist for the first few weeks. I've never had a problem starting them in soil either.

I just tried new cuttings 2 days ago! My first propagation went well but I think I took it out of the water too early! This time I will be more patient. I took a cutting but I decided to leave it as one because it has 2 leaves and one new one growing in. My thinking process is that if it has more leaves it’ll grow faster and I also took a cutting with just one leaf. I hope it goes well wish me luck!
