How long does it take for the pothos to grow? In today's video I take you from propagating a pothos from cuttings to how it grows after 48 days. I also show what to do if you experience root rot, mold and other issues. My pothos plant started to deteriorate in the middle of the video so I tried to save it using a few home remedies.

This video was 2 years ago so possibly you're not living in the same spot. I don't want to freak you out and not sure if someone has already mentioned this to you, but you really shouldn't have so much mold forming. You know the feng shui reason for plants is because plants tell you about your environment. Yours has a lot of moldy air. This happens. Some climates are like this. However, it's not generally ideal for health. If you want to get the mold to be lower, then you can add fans in your house and also look up other videos related to moldy air. You can then propagate your pothos to monitor whether the mold is decreasing. Because moldy air - for sensitive people - can cause all sorts of weird stuff from allergies to just overall less health, I thought I would mention instead of ignoring that in your video. Good luck with all your baby pothos.

Erica, you probably have discovered this already, but for the benefit of those watching this video for the first time: Since your cachepot (the red cover pot at the end) was significantly bigger than the net pot you used, adding a single layer of LECA at the bottom of it, and resting the inner basket on it, would've increased oxygenation and help curb root rot. I loved the video and already shared it with a cyberfriend who wants to rescue her late Granny's pothos!

To avoid rotting in your cuttings in water, transfer them to soil as early as possible. It had really healthy roots by the 2 week and you probably should have transferred it to soil then. Also don't put as much cuttings in the same jar.

I think what happened was that the cuttings used up all oxygen in the water and suffocated. Like others recommended, transfering to soil early is probably a better option. I do appreciate your hydroponic take on it when potting, and I personally have gone that route. But the problem is, as soon as the the roots find the reservoir, they will build up a "nest" there, and that part of the roots will sooner or later rot (still water, no additional oxygen). This problem can be solved if you do a proper hydroponic setup: either having a pump to circulate and oxygenate water or using kratky method. Anyhow this much maintenance only makes sense with some other plants that are picky with growing condition, pothos is not one of them.

Regardless, great video showcasing what could go wrong with propagating cuttings in water. You really pushed the limits here, good job and thank you!

This is overly complicated and the long time in water makes it so likely they will rot or grow mold, just as they did. Put cuttings in water. Once they have roots at least an inch and a half long, put them in soil. No need for rocks or fancy pots (though drainage and a saucer is always helpful). Give low-to-medium light and water whenever soil dries out. Easy peasy.

Pothos are hardy suckers. The one I propogated in November is still making lots of new leaves and very healthy despite my cat ripping pieces off of some of the leaves (it is now higher up!).

You should add more water in the jars, I can see some of the roots were not fully submerged.
