Star Citizen's Big Plan To Bring You Back in 2025

2024 was arguably the biggest year of development for Star Citizen. From server meshing to the Gen 12 renderer, the cargo refactor to core gameplay, there were some big moves made that point to a different energy at CIG. This video explains where that came from, and where it's going in my opinion.

New ships, new game loops, new anything doesn't matter if it's barely playable or not playable at all. I hope CIG sticks with the fix it approach for a while.

Star Citizen is at a point were no amount of new ships or "potential" is gonna make up for basic features being broken after 12 years of development.

Game stability, bug smashing, and quality of life improvements mean more to me than ANY feature.

CIG: “Our priority this year will be [anything other than selling ships].”

If this was the first or second time CIG was shifting focus to playability, maybe I would be more open to believing.

I'm not a fan of prepping for an hour, Going to do a mission and then my ship disappearing, Falling through the floor, Randomly being KO'ed for no reason etc etc.... If they could fix these things then they'd gain back some trust.

I will believe it, when I see it. Truly all that needs to be said on this topic.

The thing is: their "new" approach isn't exactly new. The whole reason they originally introduced the eptu and feature preview builds was to make the final patch releases more stable, yet they never properly established that, because in the end their sales events dictated when they released what. So as usual I don't believe a word they said until I can actually play it.

"Why it's different this time!"
Look, I'm pro-Star Citizen, but I swear we've heard this several times before. This is the kind of thing you hear from a sketchy ex-girlfriend.

It's 2025 and I still flip a coin on whether or not I can use the elevators to leave hab and go to the hangars. If I had a way to get my money back for ships bought in 2018 when the game was in the exact same state... I'd turn this Connie into 2 bags of groceries

Cargo is so tedious now, last thing I want to do is take 20+ minutes having to load the ship. I preferred it before all the changes.

They still need a realistic flight model that doesn't simultaneously create balancing headaches for all the jpeg promises they've sold. I'm convinced CIG is incapable of resolving the issue at this point, and instead of a space flight sim we're getting a high def MMO I literally never wanted. I don't care about ground missions and cargo, I don't care about crafting, I don't care about plushies and plants. That said, if the flight element of the game which all other elements revolve around were actually fulfilling instead of a DPS race to the bottom of a magazine or capacitor, I would greatly enjoy all those other aspects as well.

I started playing this week, been aware of the game for a decade.
My first experience, Started the tutorial. i woke up, went down the elevator, proceeded to the train station.
Watch the train pop up, no animation moving into the station.
Get in, the whole time the thing cannot stay on the rails, glitching all threw the sides.
Get off, head to ship terminal, cannot call ship. Think its my fault for some reason, ask chat, they tell me "NBIS elevators are down"

My feelings after waiting 12 years to play.

i low-key expect cig to get distracted by something nobody was asking for and wasting the next year working on that.
'hey, we need a way to utilise the new animals we introduced. lets all work on hunting tier 0 this year!'

I can't see how they could possibly bring me back. The game they're making is not what they sold me back when, and I don't care for what they're doing now.

This isn't like the 2018 focus on playability, 'all of this and more next year' in 2015, the 'inflection point' in 2023, 'staggered development' in 2019, or that year spent on that 'roadmap to a roadmap of only the high confidence stuff' that crashed and burned. This is the time CIG is actually going to deliver on their marketing spin. No seriously, the scary part is that there are people who can look at their track record and actually believe them when they announce something like this.

“A focus on playability “ dude I have completely given up on playing this game since 4.0 came out due to the fact that there are so many bugs every time I logged in it was absolutely unplayable for me. What’s even worse is there were multiple YouTube channels like this one telling me how hard CIG was working to make sure there wouldn’t be bugs.
