With a redesign in 1970 based on the new E-Body platform, the new Barracuda was longer and wider than the preceding models. With only a handful of design cues from the previous generation, this new, sportier and more aggressive car was a force to be reckoned with in its design as well as on the streets. Designed to easily accommodate the entire lineup of engines that Plymouth had to offer, from the basic 170c.i. Slant Six all the way up to the monstrous 426 Hemi, every level of performance was available in this new ‘Cuda. And taking it another step further, the model was available as a convertible, making it that much more fun. Sales for the 1970 Barracuda skyrocketed, 73.5% over the previous compact A-Body platform.

This is one of the longest tenured vehicles in the Wellborn Collection, with Tim having purchased the blue 1970 440 ‘Cuda Convertible in 1982, and then having to make the tough decision to sell it, the car going to a new owner in Canada. In the early 2000's, Tim was given the opportunity to purchase the car back. He immediately set about acquiring it, and the car will never leave the collection. An original Arizona car, it has never suffered the threat of rust, and its long term care has protected it from the risk of damage. A huge bonus is that it is a convertible with air conditioning, perfect for the Alabama summers!
