There is a new Humble of interest to game developers, specifically those interested in learning the Java or Kotlin programming language. In addition to looking at the books in this bundle I do a quick rundown of the most popular Java gamedev frameworks and engines.

Developer of LITIENGINE here - thanks for the shoutout!
We've hit the first beta release in August and can't wait to welcome new apprentices in our community.

Tested a lil bit of LITIEngine and it's quite intuitive to work with. Also got a welcoming and reactive community.

Even if one isn't into Java, some of the information can still be applied to other languages.

Personally not a fan of Java, emotional attachment from previous failed attempts to learn it and personally prefer C++, JavaScript and/or Typescript, and PHP. That being said, I learned Java for work (FinTech) two years ago and finally understood it after 20 years, and this bundle is O'Reilly, so...worth it!

Was about to hit submit but then remembered I needed to add the GFS partner code to add that money split option. One more Humble purchase from me with a tip to you, Mike Here At GameFromScratch!

Big Java user here! heck its my job developing enterprise software. This is interesting, the list of game engines i can use with Java.
I've already got access to these books on the Oreilly online platform but I think I should just get this bundle just incase I ever get fired and loose access to the O'reilly platform lol

Once you get into checking Kotlin, give Korge a look. I only looked at the docs tho but seemed pretty nice

Out of all the books you own what is the holy grail of starting out with game development?

Hey Mike, did you change your mic recently? Your voice seems to be a little 'sharp' compared to older videos...

I can think of FarSky and MineCraft made in Java.

Just pointing this out, if you use Oracle Java JDK in production or for business based on their new licenses you will have to pay them. If they find out you used their JDK to make money Oracle isn't afraid to sue just look at google. You can use Oracle JDK just for personal/education reasons. There is the openJDK that you can use, but there are difference to consider. I would just avoid java as whole for any major project that could make money. Oracle is running Java into the ground so just use Rust, C++, C#, Nim, Zig, Python, TS/JS, Go, Kotlin for your projects.

Java has to be the best general purpose programming language. I agree that .net is almost just as good, but I can't run .net natively on my phone yet.
Looking forward to cracking open some of these books. Java doesn't have a lot of 'cool' factor but it really can accomplish a lot. Libgdx is amazing because it gives you collections that aren't garbage collected by the jvm, that's where the performance problems come from. Libgdx = really great 2d framework.
