This video should be titled "cnet tries to scare you from cutting the cord".

Nice to see a video that suggests cord-cutting may not be for everyone. So many youtube channels that advocate cutting the cord all act as if an antenna will work for everyone and will always bring in dozens of channels, including all the major over-the-air networks. Wrong. For a large portion of the population, cable or satellite is still the only way to get many over-the-air channels. Even the streaming services, such as Sling, that claim to offer over-the-air channels, they all just offer very few of them.

Then there's the price. I have calculated the price of the services I would need to subscribe to in order to get what I get today with cable, and the savings turned out to be minimal. So, for now, I'm sticking with cable.

Here is a tip just in case you are just not ready yet to cut the cable line. Call your cable company and talk to the department that handles DISCONNECTIONS. Dont try it with customer service because they will not have the flexibility like their Disconnection department to offer deals. This department is the last line of defense for the cable company to keep you as a customer and will try their best to keep you on. You probably will get a significant cut on your bill and probably get offered better services. The reason for this is because no matter what that cable will always be at your home. They would rather get something for it then nothing. My personal experience is that I got a deal set for 3 years. Lowered my bill by 33% and i now have better services.

#1.  Of course it's worth it.  You can exclusively use free services like Crackle and the standard version of Hulu, and not have to pay anything.  Services like Amazon Prime and Netflix are good deals if you want to avoid ads, and Prime includes music too.
#5  If you currently subscribe to cable TV, you can try to get the same programs you watch now, but you will likely limit how much you save that way.  I would advise trying other shows you can either stream for free or are included in a subscription service like Netflix or Prime.  I've discovered a lot of new favorites this way.

Here it the UK we have to pay £145 for a tv licence whether we watch tv or not and any satellite or cable subscription is extra. .

I had sling tv for a little while but it was too slow. I don't know if it was sling or my ISP that was slow but it was too slow. I liked the fact that there was no contract and it was month to month, but they do need to fix the speed and add more content to make it worth $20/mo.

Wait isn't cnet owned by CBS? And isn't CBS a large broadcasting company? Doesn't this seem like a round about way of saying keep your cable?

I don't watch TV anymore, and shows I do like I wait till the next day so I don't have to watch commercials

Really suprised hulu, amazon prime, and Netflix weren't even mentioned. A ton of shows make it to hulu not long after broadcast and often eventually make it to Netflix and prime for no additional fee. Also you don't need a set top box, just plug in your PC to your TV.
