In this video lesson, I will introduce probability as a ratio of favorable outcomes to possible outcomes. You will understand that probability is the likelihood of an event occurring, expressed as a fraction or decimal from 0 to 1. Connections will be made between probability and proportional relationships. I will review how to describe the likelihood of an event occuring. Student practice is embedded in the lesson and I model exemplar problems.

Understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1 that expresses the likelihood of the event occurring. Larger numbers indicate greater likelihood. A probability near 0 indicates an unlikely event, a probability around 1/2 indicates an event that is neither unlikely nor likely, and a probability near 1 indicates a likely event.
