Windows 10 to Automatically Block 'Potentially Unwanted Programs'

So Microsoft have finally made Windows 10 to automatically block 'Potentially Unwanted Programs' or Apps. This is a great move from Microsoft, for many years I have seen Open Candy, Adware and Spyware being installed on peoples computers without there knowledge. With App and Browser control setting enabled by default, this will give people better protection with features like check apps and files, SmartScreen and potentially unwanted apps blocking.

It's a good idea as long as microsoft doesn't decide that libre office and other software that competes with their software is not labeled as unwanted.

it should be unwanted by me not by others. both malware bytes and various virus software i have had over the years have blocked legitimate software. nothing wrong in principle with microsoft doing this but i suspect many false positives is likely to be the new problem.

I consider Windows attempts to upload anything to their cloud service to be an unwanted function...

The one thing annoying me with Windows 10 at the moment is I will change settings to the way I want them such as please don't download drivers through windows update I can do that and other things like privacy settings and other things and nearly every time I get a Windows Downgrade they change it back. As far as I know from building my own PC I never got a check in the mail from Microsoft for any parts in my PC. i.e. its therefore mine and they can keep out of my settings. The other thing that happens every single time is they disable my network from being found under Network and the only thing that will bring it back is resetting my network adapter and then restarting my PC. Seriously can they just leave it alone.

Will Microsoft get rid of the PUPS they automatically install with windows?

I don't need this. I'm currently running Windows 10 1909 with updates disabled, pretty much all privacy stuff disabled, UAC off and a generic antivirus.
i'm sticking with this as long as possible and at some time I might migrate to Linux (running Windows VMs when necessary).
The only way i'm installing windows 11 is if I could set it up like my current Windows 10 - updates and most security features disabled, as well as all privacy stuff. I don't need windows holding my hand.

Great video! Learned a lot as usual. Win 10 might be getting a bit better with viruses etc but I am still seeing tons of clients getting hacked from fake Microsoft pop ups with screaming alerts to "call Microsoft or Amazon or Google to send them $$$ in gift cards to unlock their bank accounts". Would love to see you do a new video on these scams that are convincing people mostly seniors to run to the store any buy these gift cards. It's an epidemic in the USA.

Nice one Brian I have from experience in the past installed carelessly programs and like you say have ended up with unwanted rubbish on my machines. My current security besides Windows is Eset and it is very good at picking this rubbish out too!! I am now going to check out those settings in settings to see if I am covered👍 By the by under the setting for ransomware mine is greyed out shouldn't that be on??
