How to Apply a Folder's View to All Folders of Same Template Type in Windows 10 [Tutorial]

While browsing folders in File Explorer, you can apply the view settings of the current folder to all folders on your PC that are optimized for the same folder template type.

For example, the Pictures folder opened from This PC is optimized for picture files (Pictures template) by default. If you open this folder and change the view layout to Medium icons, you can apply the Medium icons view to every folder that's optimized for pictures.

This tutorial will show you how to use 'Apply to Folders' to apply a folder's view to all folders optimized with the same folder template for your account in Windows 10.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba,Lenovo, and Samsung).

Wow. I have been trying this for years. Setting view settings manually and never found a one click solution. Thanks a bunch

Thanks! It's a slightly different process for Windows 11, but I was able to get it done after watching your video.

1) Open Windows File Explorer
2) Change the view of the folder you're in to the one you want to apply for all folders (if needed)
3) Click on the 3 dots to the right of the 'Filter' drop down
4) Click on the 'Options' gear
5) Click on the 'View' tab
6) Click on the 'Apply to Folders' button
7) Click on 'OK' button

You should be good to go. I find that this needs to be done every time Windows 11 pushes out an update. 😞
Also...
(1) Apologies if you already have a clip for Windows 11
(2) Anyone ever tell you that you sound like Jay Leno? 🙂

I don't want to apply the view settings to ALL the subfolders.
Is there a way to "copy" the column arrangement of one folder, and just apply it to others, like, with a "paste-type" option?

How to arrange files inside the folder via the Auto option. Because the Auto option is not present in Windows 10

Hello, I'm trying to change all of my MUSIC folder subfolders to show the same categories when I open existing ones or create new ones, i.e., name, type (mp3, pdf, docx), date created, and length. Is there a way to set this up and apply to all of my music folders/projects without changing each one? Right now when I open a new folder, it has presets, like contributing artist, album, #, and title, which I don't want. Sure would be efficient if I could apply these categories globally somehow and figure out how they got chosen in the first place. Any help most appreciated. Sherri N.
