Situation. An AC unit I opened up to test has 2 capacitors.
a Dual 40/5 uf 6% and a single 5uf 5%
The Dual only has connections on 2 of the posts (yellow on Herm, Orange and Purple on Common) and not on the 3rd post (Fan) that measures 5uf.
But the single 5uf run capacitor has 2 cables connected to it (brown and yellow).
My question is... Are the 3rd terminal on the dual capacitor (that rates 5uf) and the single capacitor interchangeable?

I.e. if the single capacitor fails, can I just connect the cables to the Common and Fan ? If so, which cable goes to Common and which to Fan?

Not sure if a repair guy took a shortcu there. But the dual capacitor was wihin range on both the fan and herm posts.

Many thanks for your other video. I learnt a lot more today with you. I purchased a new Titan HD (?)capacitor 7.5 mFD and it says RUN ( it is for the air handler). So, now I am going to watch this video to learn about run capacitors.... Maybe this will be the year when I will finally repair my 1998 2T ac (after 5 years of not working) ... if my brain does not get toasted.

If the run capacitor is failing, will the A/C system still run but won't cool the house as set on the thermostat? I replaced the start cap but not the run cap. Air comes out cold but the temp never drops as it used to.

Hey man! I know this video is old, but my air comp. Motor has been running hot, it will work great for a few cycles and randomly it wont turn on automatically..i have my compacitors checked and they read fine...BUT my qustion is, Which would cause the motor to occasionally run hot, START OR RUN??

Thank-you for an informative video. So the only difference between start Cap and run cap is the capacitance? Start caps have higher capacitance - how much higher? When does one become the other?

Blower motor is hot I went and checked the capacitor and the numbers are right where they supposed to be, can the capacitor be bad although it's reading it's good or do I have a bad blower motor, ac unit is under a year old

So I was replacing a start capacitor for my home a/c and noticed the new replacement capacitor does not have a safety vent up top. I emailed the store and they said its the new revision. Is it still safe to use?

Oops! Wait a minute! This video was too short, mi amigo. You, or in most videos, they always talk about the compressor cap and what about the cap attached to the air handler blower? The Titan does not show any + - mFD. What kind of AC they sold me in 1998? If it was an scam I do not want that to happen again now that the prices are getting over the 10K dollars!!
