Thank you very much!!!! You save my Mac. At Apple they said that my Mac was broken.
The motherboard was burned and thanks to you I recovered.

Hi, I also had the same identical problem (black screen, but keyboard backlit are still on) and I've managed to fix it. Previously I was using a MacBook Air M2 13.6-inch with Sonoma 14.1.2. The problem lies in your "Lock Screen Settings" (System Settings - Lock Screen). Check your "Start Screen Saver" timer settings. If there's a notification that says "Display will sleep before screen saver starts, " then you need to change it. Make sure your "Screen Saver" timing is set LOWER than the two settings below it (Turn Display off, Turn Display off on power, Require password <- these are the three configurations under "Start Screen Saver when inactive").
(Except for the “Require password after screen saver” option, you are free to decide how long the duration should be.)

The configuration I used is as follows:
 1. Start Screen Saver: 5 minutes
 2. Turn display off: 10 minutes
 3. Turn display off on power: 30 minutes
 4. Requires password: immediately

Notice that my screen saver time is set lower than the other two.

After configuring those timers, my MacBook no longer gets stuck on the black screen.

Your issue lies there. When you set your Screen Saver time, there's a possibility of it clashing with the "turn display off" setting, which could cause confusion for the MacBook, resulting in it getting stuck on the black screen.

Good luck!

I had this issue on my MacBook M3 Max after the latest MacOS update. The Apple call center helped me by making me do the same thing of this video. So thumbs up to them and to you!

It happened to me twice when I used a different Mac charger. I connected to an external display and used it until the battery drained, then charged it fresh with my own charger.
