You’re cruising down the highway when all of a sudden endless rows of brake lights appear ahead. There’s no accident, no stoplight, no change in speed limit, or narrowing of the road. So why is there so much traffic? It's due to a phenomenon called a phantom traffic jam. Benjamin Seibold explains why it happens and how we might prevent it in the future.

Lesson by Benjamin Seibold, directed by Cris Wiegandt.

Everyone who drives should watch this video. It only takes a little bit of patience and cooperation to effectively lessen traffic jams *everywhere.*

Everyone's talking about the swearing, but has no one noticed that a fish is driving a car? 😂

When I was in elementary school, I noticed this phenomenon in the lines of children how when the spacing of kids decreased after a delay, it made a "wave" that went down the whole line. Then I thought about how if the line went in a circle, it would go on forever. Don't ask why I thought that was interesting when I was younger

Fantastic! I had a theory about this because on the stretch of road I drive on I've encountered this. I called it a bubble. Over time with continued braking you have a traffic wave occurring. Intwresting phenomena
