Maybe the Leviathan Axe will be the end of Thor, because the axe ended up in the Serpents mouth at the begining of the snake. Maybe the axe was soaked in the Serpent's poison, and now absorbed its killing ability. It'd be almost like the Harry Potter effect. Harry stabs the Basilisk, and Gryffindor's sword absorbed the snake's poison ability.

Right after them serpent spits axe to kratos you can see some kind of pop up of text into corner.

Spreading this so more people know, when the world serpent spits the Leviathan Axe back to Kratos (gets stuck in the boat) a message; "Etir Imbued" pops up. 'Etir' is old norse for poison. I don't think Kratos and Atreus knew what happened, but we as the player can see that the axe has been imbued with the serpents poison or venom
