How Do God of War Mythologies Co-Exist?

This is a big one. How can many, many mythologies within God of War exist at the same time? How can many pantheons have control of the sea, the sky etc.? How can there be many creation myths at the same time? Perhaps, there's an answer after all...

I always believed that the pantheons are indeed powerful but the influence only affects those lands who worship them.

So basically, they are technically on the same planet, but each section of the planet is home to its own dimension each housing the different mythologies with their own rules for how the world works

Kratos meeting Jesus and getting forgiven for his sins would go crazy

Imagine if the head gods had all met before to designate their territories and now that Zeus and Odin are dead, the other pantheons have an emergency meeting of what to do with Kratos

The director already explained that each mythology is like going to another galaxy. I guess in our world it would be like going state to state

The game Fate/Grand Order introduced this concept called "Textures", which in a nutshell are the planet being divided into different zones with different metaphysical laws as enforced by powerful beings such as gods. In Sumeria you could just dig to the underworld for example, which wasn't possible in more modern eras. After GoW 4's revelations, I sort of assumed something similar was going on here too.

Devs basically explained that each land that worships a separate pantheon is basically an alternate dimension. That's like me having to hop dimensions to travel from Texas to New York.

I thought this was explained at the beginning of God od War: Ascension. The primordials, beings that predate the universe, fought endlessly until their fighting spawned creation. All creation stories in this universe reference that event, hence why both Gaia and Surtr remember the creation of Earth. This is even somewhat confirmed in GoW:R when Surtr says the Blades of Chaos have power and it is irrelevant what lands they're from, because they contain Primordial fire.

Headcanon of mine is that the primordeal realms across all mythologies are connected. That when you go far enough in Muspelheim, you'll eventually end up in Tartaros.

Maybe beyond the Rift is the Lovecraftian plane of existence. If the creators said that space has not been explored yet, that means we'll be headed into Elder God territory like Azathoth. Imagine Kratos or Atreus battling Cthulhu with other pantheons helping out.

The developers talked about it, and Kratos even got asked about it by Mimir and Freya in Ragnarok, they asked if he could summon any of his old powers, he said he tried, and Freya said perhaps your powers disappeared along with the destruction of the land, so even with that detail in the game we can conclude that mythologies our region specific

Polynesian mythology would be pretty sick. The main creator God Tagaloa is legit just a cool guy who wanted to see stuff exist. Pele the Volcano Goddess would be a killer boss fight, and Maui would be fun to challenge to a hunt or something.

This was great and my understanding of how the worlds worked was essentially this. This is also why I believe Atreus will cross the mythology barrier to Celtic mythology for the DLC and learn of the different mythos working around that area that were essentially what was leftover after the Fall of Rome. That is also how I believe Mimir knows about Kratos as the Ghost of Sparta. Because the Celtic Gods knew of the Romans and the Romans knew of the Greeks.

I’m fairly certain Cory Barlog explained it in a sense that the mythologies exist within their own geographical areas but within then they have their version of the world and cosmology.

Essentially like pocket dimension or universes inside of a multi verse. It’s also become apparent that some pantheon are aware of the other pantheons; more than likely acknowledging the info given to us by Cory himself.

Cory Barlog himself on the matter;

“The ‘actual’ god of war earths geography is the same as our real earths. The only difference between the two is that within each geographical region, there exists a version of the universe with its dimensions and earth as inspired by the prevalent mythology and local belief system of people living in that particular region”

14:55 I watched till the very end. Appreciate the video. I didn't see many people talk about how the the gods in this game are hardly gods. I like that you mentioned it.

How does each God of War co-exist with others of the mythology? Simple:

Olympian: "You stay over there in the sands, and I'll stay over here."

Egyptian: "And you keep to your mountain, and I'll stand my ground here with the sun."

Norse: "I won't mess with either of yall unless you come here to start something."

Kratos: "Leave...My...Home!"

Didn't Cory Barloc already explain in an interview that the various mythologies where like it's own galaxy? Existing in the same universe but seperated by distance? To some extend it is similar to how the Nine Realms are portrayed in these games. All conneted but spacially seperate.

The type-moon/Nasuverse explains that different mythologies and pantheons exist and are separated by what are known as “textures” which works similar to how you describe different mythologies coexisting

Classic Marvel Comics had over 20 pantheons in the same universe- with a pretty good explanation for this too

I've always loved settings where multiple pantheons exist and all of their gods/afterlives are actually real. Wish there were more real world inspired settings were every religion, mythical creature and legend are based on fact. It would be amazing going on an adventure were you start off fighting werewolves/vampires/fairy and by the end of it you're fighting Oni and Chinese demons.
