Had no idea I could address pins by their labelled name. D5, D8, etc. Great :-)

#5 is the worst. reduces the number of actually usable pins on the 8266. it's "documented" but apparently not widely known. I spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot why my wemos d1 wouldn't boot.
