“When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said "Let us pray." We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land.”-- Desmond Tutu.

Jake, I have been following your videos for quite some time. As someone who was born and raised in Hawaii, and still resides here, this means a lot to me. Thanks for using your voice to share the struggle our Native Hawaiian brothers and sisters have endured and continue to endure. Mahalo nui loa 🤙🏽

I was born on Hawaii, Very good video on Hawaii's History. I learned about its uprising and overthrow of the queen, I never knew Grover Cleveland actually refused to annex Hawaii. I also never knew 82 landholders hold the lands of Hawaii. Very good video Jake

Mahalo nui loa for exploring this topic. Although our land was stolen, the kanaka maōli are still here! Trying as best as we can to keep our culture alive. Through practices such as farming, reviving the Hawaiian language, and dancing hula, we will keep our culture going strong. Corporations and the military taking everything but we will prevail. THERE IS NO ALOHA WITHOUT HAWAIIANS.

Fellow friends, when visiting Hawaii try and support local as much as possible! Of course be super respectful around any sites. And if interested in moving there, just know that property values are high, and additional outside populations can drive local Hawaiians into poverty. Peace from Alaska!

One of the most unspoken traits of historical events is the role of massive corporations that steer the political, and even military, might of powerful nations to do their dirty work. I hope one day Jake can tell the real C19 story without getting banned. Not holding my breath.

This reminds me of how America tried the same thing to the Philippines but the natives (esp Tausugs) fought back ferociously to the point that the Marines had to invent the M1911 to stop the rebellion. But in the end they didn't conquer it like they did on Hawaii.

A lot of native Hawaiians don't even live there anymore because they couldn't afford it once I met some Hawaiians and they said that they miss home but they couldn't really afford to live there and now it's a home to people on vacation

I just took a trip to the Hawaiian islands and before I went I found your channel so I was very interested in the back story of how Hawaii became part of the US since the culture and lifestyles are so different than on the mainland. I had a feeling it probably wasn’t a pretty or good story but I have a major respect for the local Hawaiian up holding the care of their land. Thank you for put together this video for us to learn the real history of the US.

As poʻe ʻōiwi, I support this video. I really hope everyone sees this. Spread the truth. Yes it’s in the past and we need to move forward but, this is the reason a lot of kanaka maoli dislike foreigners. If you know where the hurt is, only then can we heal from it! Kūʻē i ka hewa!

Video didn't mention this but Sanford Dole is also the founder of the Dole fruit company. That's where it got its name. If you're reading this you've probably bought their products.

thanks for this video... hurts to see that our culture has been commercialized and sold as an interesting part to a vacation. Waikiki is full of this and I avoid it like the plague. I'm glad that the hawaiian renaissance has brought the pride of being hawaiian back, but nothing can undo the damage the us has done to us
