I was working in a bakery in the UK, one day a new employee from Poland, Edek, arrived, he was fresh, he literally went to work from the plane. Our manager, having a cigarette, asked him the usual "All right?" with a southwest accent. And Edek, as he knew the language, started: first about his ex-wife, that she "wh..e", then that the children are bad because they ignore him, then he talked about high blood sugar and back pain, Polish politics, Germans and Jews, Russians. I finished the break earlier because I had started earlier, but when I was going to the fridge I heard him talking about how his mother had been expropriated from the apartment during Bierut's time. If he had more time, he would probably complain about World War II. Napoleon or maybe Grumwald. After everything, Andy, the manager, comes almost in tears and asks us "why did he do this to me?" Edek didn't learn anything that day, but Andy will probably never ask a Pole "All right?" again.

Polacy są jak rodzina, czasem ciężko z nami wytrzymać, ale jak nas nie kochać! 😂

I'm from Iceland and I have a Polish wife. It's funny that the largest immigrant group in Iceland are Poles and they come here mostly for economic reasons. And now we are considering moving to Poland because Iceland has become almost unlivable because it's so expensive! But there are also other reasons we prefer Poland, mostly cultural and family reasons.

I love that you mentioned safety on your list! I lived in Poland and now I live in the US and I can tell the difference when it comes to safety. Poland is a very safe country with good morals. I definitely miss the education system there as well.

I agree 100% with your last comment. We are very privileged to be a part of Poland as she grows!!

People often mistake realism for pessimism. I think Poles are more of the former than the latter. As for the melancholy, the longer we live in peace and prosperity, there will be less of it, I guess.

Even though I have lived in the States for a long time, and yes, I am from Poland, I have been told by many Americans, that I am very negative. However, I don’t feel that I am negative and I wind up explaining to people that I’m realistic. Being realistic is not the same as being pessimistic of course. And yes, realism is looking at things the way they are instead of masking them with this absolutely insane and artificial optimism that I find in the US. For this reason, I feel that we Poles are just saying the truth, and not hiding it behind smiles and happy euphemisms. As for the bureaucracy in the US, I can really tell you absolutely horrible instances of having to deal with that. I think bureaucracy is pretty much bad everywhere. And yes, I will be returning to Poland within the year for good.

I really appreciate your honesty. It's very valuable for me to be able to hear a person talk with respect about our flaws. It's a big chance for us to be able to notice and change certain things.

I can't stop admiring your lucidity. W punkt! If it comes about the negatives, it is very similar in France, where I'm living. But people here are in love with France:))).

Hi! I am Polish and I have been living abroad for over ten years now, in France, Morocco and Portugal. I am a bit of an outsider/insider and I have seen so many changes in these years. Each time coming back, I can see the life becoming more comfortable, more easy and advanced. Lately at last, I have observed a ridiculous rise of prices (which can cause lots of difficulties but on the other hand finally services cost what they are worth since ages). About our personality... Well, my boyfriend is Portuguese and I don't count how many times he aldready asked me "are you angry at me?" and I stare with deepest confusion on my face... I still didn't figure out what makes him think I am angry. He says it is the face. I should be walking with the mirror or something. The truth is I am seldomly angry in reality, but he interprets some of my faces as such
