How to stay warm in cold weather

About 40 years ago. I did some training at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport California. Which is located in the Sierra Mountain Range. While learning winter survival and other extreme cold weather training. There was one tip that I was taught. That since then, by using that technique. I have found myself never getting cold in those extreme temperatures.
In this episode. We are going to look at this great tip. And how to apply it in frigid temperatures.

Happy Thanksgiving. I did some of that winter camping in the Army too, but in Washington state. The best way I found is to live in Texas! 🇨🇱

Great advice & Happy Thanksgiving! I went through Air Force SERE school in Washington state in Dec a little over 20 years ago. It was great training & prepared us well for winter hiking & camping, among other things!

Baggy clothes and big boots are the way to go! I find that wicking under shirt, thin wool layer then a wind breaker works well for most cold conditions while hiking.

I will always take people's real life experience over what Google tells me, but I did read that your baselayer (closest to skin) should be close-fitting and the rest of the layers, like you say, loose-fitting to trap the air.
Either way, all your videos are invaluable to me.

Have a good christmas and new year🎄

Nice scenery. Where I live in the UK is cold and wet and gets dark around 5pm.
I much prefer Spring or Summer, or even Autumn with all the beautiful colours.
I watch some videos online, of people camping in the rain and wind and for the life of me, I don't understand what joy they can find in it.
Cold and dry, is much better than cold and wet.
I agree with you on the quality of clothing having deteriorated over the years.
We live in a disposable society it seems, where fashion trends take precedence over quality.
Take care of yourself and God bless.

Great information. Some gear companies design their gear to be form fitting so Ill remember to size up

Another great video! Happy Thanksgiving. I discovered baggy winter gear when I started hiking seriously. Works great. Also leaves room for moisture ventilation.

Being 6'2" and mostly skinny, I always used to buy medium in jackets - and the sleeves would end up being too short, and in general everything was too tight. I'd get cold in the winter, and thought it was just my genetics.

Took me forever to learn that I need Large, Large Tall, XL - and now I look forward to getting outside in the winter.

Good points. I have a huge green hooded parka that I got in Iceland. Love it for setting around. Wool is king. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving, Al

Great advice! Bigger boots are key...I love my muckluks - 1 1/2 sizes bigger and a size wider than I normally wear. I'm still breaking them in, and hoping they stretch a bit more (They are too tight if I put extra soles in right now - but I've only used them for two outings so far). I hope to bump into you for another hang!

Thanks Ron! I'll try to find wool pants then! It is a shame I already bought gloves that are a little tight fitting. Maybe they will loosen up with use.
Have a wonderful Xmas time
