my grandfather was a farmer on the border between poland and ukraine he was raised during there war where the border would change locations daily so he was technically born in poland but his parents where ukranian and spoke ukraine i only ever met him while he was in a nursing home when i was a barely concious child he slipped on black ice walking his dog and from then on he was unable to speak at all he would just mumble stuff in different pitches even to this day i can still see him and hear it clearly him mumbling to me of how much he loved me and how happy he was that he got to see me before he died and recently ive been feeling low and felt learning his native language would draw me closer to my motherland and bring me closer to my grandfathers heart

Hi, guys! Great job! One little comment. In Ukrainian we don't say Я хочу чай, we would rather say Я буду чай. Normally in a conversation it would be like that: Що ти будеш пити? Чай, будь ласка. If it's informal. At a cafe the question would be: Що ви будете пити? Чай, будь ласка.

honestly not that bad coming from someone who's first language is Polish...I feel like with Slavic languages, once you master one you can easily learn the rest of them which is so satisfying.

2:48 Actually I want a tea would be "Я хочу чаю" because "чай" should be in genetive case in this specific sentence. In most cases like I love tea a tea would be just чай the same with I like tea "я люблю чай" I drink tea "я п'ю чай"

Thank you for your work!

Allthough i understand ~2/3 of clear Ukrainian (more if written), i never had a chance to speak it. I did work with Ukrainians for a brief moment, but my 3rd language is russian, they accepted it. I nearly got a place with ukrainian CNC master mentor, but somehow missed that opportunity.

Since Ukraine got invaded, i'm looking for ways to go there, so not to make a surzhik mess of languages, this course is still useful. It's harder to learn a similar language to one you know well than one not so closely related. It was hard learning Spanish and especially French after first learning Italian from childhood, a similarly closely latin-related language because of too many similar, but slighly different words. Only way is relearning the similar language you plan on using from scratch and main thing - practice it naturally and regularly, preferably with native speakers.

I started earning ukranian at the start of the year through duolingo (admittingly I missed a good few months of learning) so I can't speak on if this is good for someone starting to learn it knowing nothing but what I will say is this certainly seems like good revision.

The only critique I can offer (or warning to some) is that the term "student" changes based on gender. The feminine form is "Studentka". If you are a girl/woman you would say "Ya studentka". If you are a man talking to a girl/woman you would say "Vi Studentka"
Otherwise, great intro and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!
