How to fix RESCUE dog aggression

Rescued a dog? First few months are delightful... until they aren't. What went wrong? Where did you go wrong? You gave the dog everything, and can't figure out why they are acting aggressive "all of a sudden". Follow along in this video as I detail the steps necessary to undo the "bad behaviors".

More than anything, YOU have to step up as a leader. There isn't anything wrong with your dog, this is the result of you giving your dog everything, and forgetting that just like us, dogs need to fulfill a purpose. They need jobs to do.

Omg EXACTLY what I need for my rescue Chihuahua. Leia's been horribly mistreated, broken ribs, thrown down stairs etc, and we need to help her through her trauma and also fix her behaviour.

I have a rescue dog. I set boundaries and tell her no! She’s untrusting to new faces I’m in the military now and I’m afraid I’ll have to rehome her because I don’t think they will let me have her on base.

I have a 60 pound rescued pointer mix who came to me at 3 years old. It's now 6 months later and he is way better. His problem is that things trigger weird aggressive behavior.

Adopted a “lab/corgi” mix at a shelter in OR. Vet thought he was about 5-6 when I got him 3 years ago. This poor guy has been through so much. He was found in CA on the side of the road and taken to a high kill shelter. Oregon Humane went and picked up a bunch of dogs. He came back with them and then I adopted him and brought him up to Seattle with me. A few months in, he started to grow a mass on his leg, followed by little scabs on his ears. Took him in thinking a cyst… they said here’s a doggy surgeon, it’s probably cancer. I told the surgeon to take everything and get good margins. Came home with a wound vac (I’m an RN) and was told only a few weeks of bandage changes and it would be healed- I knew from the beginning he would need a skin graft and told the surgeon, but he didn’t believe me. Path came back as Leproid granuloma and was started on 6 months doxycycline. They wouldn’t let me do his bandage changes at home so this meaning lots of trips to the vet. Eventually skin graft and more bandage changes. Followed by a recurring incidental pressure ulcer from the bandages. From the day I got him, he had horrible separation anxiety. To the point of where he chewed his way out of a wire crate and almost snapped the top on his neck. He’s not meant to be caged apparently. He does well and doesn’t destroy anything in the house unless he is scared. He then had a babysitter while I was at work for 13 hour days. Eventually with time and Prozac, he’s gotten much better. Had another 6 mo round of doxy bc the canine leprosy had come back, presenting on his ears. Then dental surgery from fractured teeth that he had even before I got him. He’s the most spoiled boy on the planet and gets whatever he wants. After his leg surgery, he tried to bite my nephew. I kept him away from kids. Then he started hating/aggressive - maybe fearful of other dogs. He’s slowly gaining trust back in humans, but not dogs. Very leash aggressive. Potty trained, leash trained (not perfect), and is scared of anytime anyone bends down to pet him. My guess would be abuse at some point. He goes everywhere with me and does well with strangers. Confidence or more social exposure? Liked other dogs at first, then the multiple surgeries, etc and I don’t blame him for wanting to bite! He’s almost 8-9 ish? Sorry, getting to the question, I promise! He’s just got too much of a history. Is it too late to train him?

Thank you for this. I am trying to get the neighbor's dog to bond with me. His owner passed away, and we do not want her to finish her days in a cage. I have no experience with dogs. I sent you an email to your rescue, and I hope to get your expert opinion. Thank you in advance, and please, keep doing what you are doing. High Paw!

We have a rescue terrier mix for 3 weeks. He is house trained, follows us around the house, will eat from our hand, will come sniff us every now & then but…has a “don’t touch me attitude”. Is there hope that he will let us touch him someday?

Omg 😳 I’m gonna follow you on social media. Let me tell you a story. I went to visit my mother in Ecuador and we found this dog in the street who was being scared away from some people and when she crossed the street a car hit her leg and broke her femur.
I felt responsible for that dog since I saw it happening. So we took her to the vet and we paid for surgery. It’s been 2 weeks now and she broke her leg again :( god knows how. Sadly I can’t keep her since I have 5 rescued dogs and one more is too many to bring to the USA. My mom is still in Ecuador keeping up with the updates of the dog but she’s telling me that the vet don’t want to keep her anymore, on top of that she’s very aggressive towards everyone :( can you please advice me in how to handle this? I’m desperate and I feel really sad about what’s going on to her :(

We rescued a pit mix that was TERRIFIED of everything and completely shut down. We allowed her to decompress, she doesn’t have access to the entire house and stays in her crate area (she bites and bends the bars, so she’s behind a baby gate with crate open), and has a bathroom/feeding routine. Now that she’s coming out of her shell, we’re seeing a lot of reactivity, at home and on walks, and separation anxiety. She’s also reactive with our tiny Maltese. She hasn’t been able to be integrated into our family life, because she’s so reactive and needs to be managed on a leash at all times. Leash training has been a struggle, but she is getting better at her commands. I feel very overwhelmed with this situation and stressed in my own house 🙁 Any advice? When do you decide that the dog is not a good fit? It’s been 2 months on the struggle bus already 😔
