Rescue dogs are the best! It's amazing to see them blossom as they feel security and love.

Sadly though, too many people give them love, love and more love with no structure, no discipline and no exercise. They imagine all kinds of horrors that must have happened to the dog in their previous life and all they want to do is love on them to make them better which doesn't work unless they also provide leadership, structure, exercise and discipline

Also, very important, the 3-3-3 rule. 3 days to decompress from the stress of moving homes yet again. 3 weeks to learn to relax and accept the routine, and 3 months to get comfortable with the home, stability and routine. I've also noticed that around 3 years there's another relaxation point, as though the dog has finally let go of something and can full bond with you. I have had 8 rescue Aussies in the last 30 years

Spot on mate. We rescued a 6 months old Jackabee, a dominant, spoiled, athletic, unsocialised little brat, and keeping these 3 points in transformed him utterly...

We've always had shelter/rescue dogs, never even considered breeds. The point of a dog is not to get a fashion statement but to help an animal find a home.

😢2 months ago we got a 2-year-old rescue basenji terrier mix. She's definitely fearful and has snapped at both of us. We've had dogs our whole lives, but never one past eight weeks of age. Kind of floundering...

I got a rescue one year old golden retriever, he was abused by his previous owner, and so he's a very scared dog who hides from sudden movement

Excellent advice as always. People too often go by cute looks or preferred breed when looking at a rescue w/out knowing how much work they need

My lovely rescue Greyhound is such a mellow, sweet dog 💜

What would you recommend for a rescue dog that freezes up on walks and won’t budge? It’s really hard coaxing her forward when she plants herself in place. She was attacked in the shelter by another dog over food and right now everything just makes her so scared.

Patience and a calm home are first and foremost of importance.

I was just looking at a beautiful dog for rescue, but I realised that I would not be able to physically lead her. This video is such perfect timing and good info as usual😊

Thanks. One day I'll get a dog. I've always been worried about getting a rescue because of problem behaviours, but this gives me confidence to consider it.

How about having a plan before you get any dog? Walk times, feeding times, who is doing what? The girl friend that just got home from work and you have to take the dog out etc.

I find your videos to be very good, you explain things well and you obviously know your onions. I would welcome a video on seperation anxiety in rescue dogs but I demand nothing Sir! If you read these, enjoy your weekend, if you don't enjoy it anyway.
