I'm from Norway, and we do not even have storms, much less twisters. So this is sci-fi for me.

"Big dumb fun without insulting the audience's intelligence" -- it's not really too much to ask and yet it's something that Hollywood seems to have forgotten how to do. After seeing so many movies resurrected only to be eviscerated before our horrified eyes, I was fully expecting for this movie to be a huge disappointment and was planning on skipping it. I'm glad to hear it sounds like they kept the spirit of the original and I'll give it a chance. Thanks, Dan!

The first one has a special place in my heart. I miss Bill Paxton.

If they make a third, can we please call it TWIIISTERS or TWIST3RS?

I got to experience this in 4D! So I've been literally calling friends saying "Take your family to SEE IT NOW! IN 4D!"

I think this movie was a massive surprise. Not only was I flabbergasted by the opening, but the overall quality of the movie was excellent. They focused on character and story, while combining thrilling sequences of natural disasters. It's also fun to have a different type of blockbuster other than superheroes or a man with a gun. It gives me hope for the future of blockbusters, and blockbusters that CARE about characters and story.

PS. 90s Twister is one of my favourite summer movies, this one is too.

With Dan living in Arkansas, I've been looking forward to his review of Twisters!

It's not too bad, I will see it again I think. I wish that Powell was the main character, he is so much more charismatic than Edgar-Jones. If not that, they should have emphasized the romance more

I think if the characters and plot were written better and the movie was more fun, I could have just enjoyed it. Since it wasn’t, I kept asking questions like, “How dumb are people that live in tornado alley that they need storm chasers to tell them to seek shelter when a tornado is coming?”

Twister, Twisters, I suppose the next 2 will be Twister 3 and Twister Resurrection, then I imagine the spinoff/sequel Twister vs Predator.

I got to admit that in 1996 I was already 33 years old but I liked the original Twister for the same reasons you did as a 13 year old. That may tell us something about me, or not, but the flying cows, the realistic destruction, and maybe even the melodrama (that I don't remember much) were just great.
That same summer MI 1 and Independence Day also came out? Must have been the best summer ever.
Big dumb fun? Yes. Good review, as always. Thanks.

Glad to hear you liked it! It was an absolute blast. An upgrade over the original, which is saying a lot.

Excited to get my own review edited and uploaded soon!

... but at 5:06 - which "returning cast member" / moment are you referring to here? Help refresh my memory.

I was confused by your beating around the bush about an Actor they wanted to play a certain part. Do you mean they wanted HELEN HUNT to play Daisy's mother? That would have required the script to open up a whole new back story and address Bill Paxton's absence. Might have been distracting. I would have enjoyed maybe a scene where there is a TORNADO CHASER wall of fame in the town square and they show a picture of Bill Paxton, and Glenn Powell mentions he was inspired to chase Tornadoes by Bill Paxton's character. That would have been a nice satisfying connecting Nod.

Great review Dan, you really nailed why I too loved the original Twister. It was absolutely ridiculous but I loved how they leaned into it (Cow!) and Bill Paxton, one of my favourite character actors ever, was a charismatic leading man. I will be seeing the new one!

Twister was one of my favourite films growing up. The original came out when I was 6 and it was one of our most watched VHS and eventually DVD.
This film lives up to that legacy. Go watch

What’s truly absurd about Twister is how well it worked and still works. Glad to hear this somehow struck twice at that well.

Love seeing all of these positive reviews coming in for Twisters.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Joseph Kosinski when talking about the talent behind-the-camera; Man's 3 for 3 in making AMERICAN films that doesn't look down at it's target demographic, while maintaining an international appeal.

I live in Dallas TX, i liked how whenever clips of the news came on and they were warning of an outbreak there was that long, red, oval on Oklahoma with okc in the upper third and extending down to almost the Texas border. Heh that happens every.single.year, they def. got that part right. South central Okhlahoma is always in the news every Spring.

I would actually put it in “see it now” - this needs to be seen on the big screen. Not at home
