How to Train your Cat Not to Scratch You

Cats are one of the most common pets around the world. Having a cat-companion is very fulfilling but sometimes the cats have some bad habits that are difficult to break Scratching is a normal cat behavior but if it starts to scratch you, other family members, or even your expensive furniture, carpets, and then the key is the intervention, prevention, and redirection.

When the kittens are young, don't use your hands to play with them. That will just teach the kitten that hands are toys, and it will keep believing that when grow up. Instead, use actual toys when playing. Only use your hands for petting or other calm activities.

Fake a cry after getting a scratch. Close ur eyes with hands and sit down and keep crying and if possible bow your head and rest on floor. Within a minute cat will come near you to say sorry by rubbing it's head against your body. Cat will learn not to scratch may be in 3 or 4 trials. I have never even trimmed my cats nail because i feel sorry to do that to furbabies and let them live with what God has given them. It is all about how we treat them and they won't scratch. I love seeing them climbing trees in seconds which is rather difficult for them if we trim nails.

Another cat parenting tip is to figure out what training method works best for your cat's personality. For example, I once had a mentally disabled cat whom my mom had trouble training to behave around our birds. It took her 3 months to train Clover, but she still wasn't listening. My mom gave me 1 week to train Clover, and I got her trained in only 3 days. In Clover's case, I kept telling her how much I love her and that I didn't want my mom to send her away to a farm and live as a farm cat. She understood how I feel, and 3 days later, she just watched the birds in their cages and didn't try to attack them. The real test was her interacting with the birds when they were out of their cages. She still left them alone. I think part of what helped is that Sagwa kept hissing at Crystal and Clover and basically telling them in the cat language that those birds were family and not food. Crystal got the message the first week we had her and her sister, but Clover just needed a little more patience than what my mom was used to with training cats.

I have two cats. One never used his nails even as a kitten but the other one constantly does. I'm at my wits end on how to stop her behavior. It's like her nails are just always out. We have a scratching post and a cat tree and often redirect her there, but I feel like it's not enough.

It's really very simple. Train yourself not to play rough with the cat and the cat won't play rough with you. I've never had cats scratch me since I was young and stopped playing rough with them.

My Belle have never scratched me on purpose. The only scratches i got from her was when she was climbing me. You dont train cats to not scratch. You make them comfortable enough for them to not need to scratch you. She was a good girl.
