In this video, Chris Ward covers Lync 2013's management tools. There are two main tools available to you for managing a Lync Server 2013 environment, plus a third one that straddles the two. Learn exactly what they are and when you should be using them.

This is a Microsoft product, so obviously one of the two management tools is a GUI. The Lync Server Control Panel displays all the server management information you could need in a familiar way.

The control panel is good, and can accomplish about 90-95% of all the management you'll need to do. Most of the information, actions and resources you'll need are a few clicks away, but you'll also need to know the other tool.

It's in Lync Server Management Shell that you can handle 100% of your management. Both tools run on PowerShell 3.0, but only in the management shell can you enter the specific cmdlets particular to Lync Server 2013.

No matter your preference, RBAC behaves differently in the two tools, and you'll want to get a sense of how each tool changes your experience with defining and calibrating roles.
