Kathleen Stock: Protests hit Oxford Union gender debate

Protestors have disrupted a debate at the Oxford Union where the feminist Kathleen Stock was speaking.

Trans activists had called for Prof Stock's invitation to talk to be cancelled over her stance that transgender women are not women.

Free speech activists argued all views should be heard and debated.

This is the problem with the generation of today, they are so sensitive that even a conversation is deemed offensive. How can we effectively outline our positions on either side of the debate, when the conversations cannot even take place. There are some very serious discussions to be had around trans rights. Mainly because discussions of boundaries are nesseacary to ensure that the rights of other people are not diminished, such as the right to free speech, which is clearly impeached in this situation.

Trans rights are deemed as progressive, but the methods used to aquire them are actually inflammatory because it only invites more animosity.

Young people taking their own lives is very sad, but avoiding uncomfortable discussions will only lead to more unessacary death because the underlying problem is never investigated.

Disrupting a debate just shows how their position is more emotional than rational. I strongly disagree with Kathleen Stock on many issues, but agree with her that gender fluidity is indeed a 'social contagion'.
