Bomberman Hero - Nitro Rad

That one random weird time Bomberman was a platformer. There's a lot of neat oddities to find in this strange experiment of a game.

I remember there was this Kiosk for N64 games at Target. It had no controller, just some board with flat button stickers for each game to play the trailer. I pressed the one for Bomberman Hero and it was some narrator freaking out yelling "It's Bomberman Hero and he can Jump Now!" That spoke to me since I was wondering why I could not jump in Bomberman 64

I played through this game so many times, and would 100% every level, but this is the first time I'm hearing about the secret on the main menu.

I wanna say that I love how you open videos. Shedding more info on the topic, company, or just something personal for you is a great way to introduce the topic instead of just throwing it right into the review. I had no idea Atomic Bomberman existed!

Interesting fact, the Easter egg with mashing the start button was made because Hudsonsoft sold a N64 controller that had turbo button functionality. You were supposed to use their controller to find the Bonus option.

They sacrificed the frame rate for the best soundtrack in existence

Fun Fact: This was orignally gonna be a Bonk game. That's why it's the weird different Bomberman game and probably why we never got another one, as it wasn't intended to be Bomberman-related.

Blockbuster rentals is the reason why.

Still kinda bitter that Bomberman wasn't playable in Smash Ultimate

Y'know, I grew up with this game. Something that really stuck out to me as a kid was the aesthetic of the worlds and the enemies. It seemed like a strange, alien world, with strange, geometrical robotic creatures, and all I had was a cute little dude to get me through them all.

Music aside, I do have to give the game credit for having a good visual design.

"… see this stereo button… if you mash start as fast as you can when you boot up the game, it'll be *replaced* with a bonus button."
•Shows footage of the bonus button with the still very present stereo button visibly above it.•

19:35 As weird as that method to unlocking a secret seems to us, I actually think it's kinda neat. When you think about how kids play games, mashing start to get to the game quicker, definitely seems like something they would do.

For some reason I just found that part really charming. It's amazing how differently kids and adults can end up playing a game.

Sound design is very satisfying. I always loved this game, I wish they had made more adventure/platformers for Bomberman.

This and Bomberman 64 were my biggest childhood games. Thank you for reviewing more of my favorite mascots. Also Atomic Bomberman was also my favorite game on pc.
