In human history, we have had several great civilizations emerging and lasting thousands of years making an impact that has severe impacts on generations to come. Advanced human civilizations have existed for more than 10,000 years.
The first known complex civilization started in the 4th millennium BCE in Sumer, Mesopotamia. Since then, many great empires have come and gone, leaving behind their great legacies, artifacts, architectures, monuments, inventions, and innovations.
On some occasions, the civilization fell apart in hours like Pompeii or through several years of economic crisis. The collapse of these past empires was due to four major factors: political issues, social and cultural issues, environmental issues, and economic issues. Economic collapse can be considered the key reason for the sudden fall of these civilizations.
It made scientists curious, and they started working to predict the collapse of modern civilization.
In 1972 MIT study, a team of researchers studied the risks of a doomsday scenario, examining the restricted availability of natural resources and the rising costs that would subvert the possibility of economic growth in the second decade of the 21st century.
So, is it true that our civilization is headed towards economic collapse? Stay till the end to discover the answer.

The richest and most powerful are well-aware of the looming crisis, and are striving hard to ensure their own survival. I truly believe their actions are both accelerating and exacerbating the problems, and will lead to the largest and furthest reaching civilisational collapse the world has ever seen.

I think the loss of true, equal and swift justice is one of the biggest failures of our country.

We're doomed! Live for today and don't worry about tomorrow and the bill is due! I feel sorry for the children to be born from this time forward, much suffering ahead.

Everyone here thinks society will go out with a bang, and while that would be quite the spectacle, imo it's way more likely to go out with a whimper, the public will barely notice their own starvation

As crazy as many people believe it to be, there are people around the world who have learned the 3 key tenets of survival in readiness for societal collapse: learn to hunt food, learn to grow food, and learn to walk away from the willfully weak.

"Humanity must make strong efforts ect."...well, we are DOOMED. Humanity has always been about shortsighted self-interest, this is part of our DNA. I'm just surprised that the end will come in 2040, and not sooner. We are already seeing signs globally that our social systems are under stress: migration, inflation, societal breakdown.

I think 2040 is even optimistic, since the war of Ukraine had at the time of the release not yet begun.
And it has been a crisis-multiplier.
My guess is that collapse might occur within this decade, of at the beginning of the next decade at most.

one of the major fears back in the 70s was over population, now it's depopulation that is one of the biggest fears. 🤷‍♂️

93 by 2040... 93?? What are the odds...so-so healthy, a bit gimped up... 17 more years of this just to see things fall apart? Frankly, not sure either I or the Country is healthy enough to make it THAT far??

seriously it won't take that long, sooner or later one of these madmen will push a button and then the retaliation is the key, blood for blood, no one is immune

I would have thought MIT would have gotten to the root of why the collapse will take place . That problem is human overpopulation .

Industrialization leads to collapse, you might say in parallel to knowledge. Early man lived the earth for thousands of years, lived simple lives, and respected the land. Along comes an exponentially growing knowledge of science and mathematics that leads to demise. One can only think it must be repeatable and unstoppable for any similar species on any planet. If only we could survive just long enough to reach for the stars, maybe our kind would have a chance to advance before our demise. Demise could mean extinction or roll back, small pockets of civilization may survive, but the world as a whole will be set back many generations. Any surviving lands of modern means may slowly become the next rulers, repeating the same vicious cycle.

2040. That's cute.

We are WELL ahead of schedule for societal (and ecological) collapse.

We'll be lucky to make it to 2030.
