Is Cocomelon Bad for Your Child?

Short Answer: Yes, but so are all gadgets left alone with the child.

Long Answer: No, use it as a reward and spending quality time with your child. You need to accompany your child because it is an addictive source of entertainment. If you need to keep your child busy whilst you’re doing something, use a set time everyday to teach your child how to play with toys. It should be natural that the child would play alone with toys when needs be.

Also, do not cut off screen time right away, cold turkey. The reason is that this is an addiction, and it requires you slowly wean off screen time.

So my son is almost 2 and I’ve been letting him watch coco melon because he really likes it. But now I had to get him a speech therapy in order so I can get him to talk /: I’m not saying coco melon was the cause of this but I do feel like I failed as a mother by letting him watch that. This video really educated me a lot and I think I’ll start weaning him off the coco melon and play with him more. He’s not going to be 2 forever so I want to do better for him.

I’ve been saying this for a whole year as a kindergarten teacher. Had to fight my coteacher to advocate for them playing outside. I told her I will deal with them falling but I won’t succumb them to mindless entertainment unnecessarily.

Exactly, get your kids outside! Period. Play with them, read with them, do arts and crafts. Period.

I’ve been letting my baby watch that show, so sad. Never too late to stop. I still interact with my baby but hands on learning should be better

Never ever introduce your babies and toddlers into gadgets, TV shows can be somewhat regulated but gadgets can be out of control, apologists makes excuses their children learned to talk and smart thinkers by binging into Cocomelon and Youtube Kids but I highly doubt that is the case for all parents. This time and age, handing out gadgets to babies became the easy outlet by lazy parents/guardians in order to shut their kids up and dont bother them when they are doing something

I tried hard to keep Cocomelon off the menu as much as possible, and never allowed touch screen use. However, the show isn't unique in its tactics. I've noticed that virtually every remake of older shows are dumbed down and remove any moral lessons that the originals had. They are crazy fast paced and the one-liner dialog is hard to hear clearly. I've switched to anime for my son because it has heros, smart dialog, and long term story arcs. I've noticed he slows down and watches and even when I think he isn't paying attention he can recall plot points accurately. He still isn't able to enjoy slower shows like Gargoyles and Batman the Animated Series. Even the original season 1 of Pokémon is hard for him to sit through.

It’s weird that a children’s show can put children into catatonic-like stages, the diagnosis of catatonic schizophrenia is probably going to skyrocket

❤ So true my great grandson just goes crazy and he is 2 yrs old. It's like he goes into a trance glued to the screen. He doesn't talk or listen to anyone. I agree that Cocomelon is not bad it teaches them good things. It's the screen time not to long. They need outside time. Play time with parents.

Cocomelon is very bad. One big thing u didn’t mention is how often cocomelon changes scenes. And the repetitiveness compared to other normal tv shows

Cocomelon cracked the formula to the human brain and how to forge extra engagement with it. That’s why it’s so bad

Thanks for bringing more attention. But we need to be harder on shows like cocomelon and in general when we start out talking about why children are not talking or showing ASD symptoms, we need to first mention and ask the parents how much tv time they are getting.

Thanks again. Been learning a lot from your videos.

My neice is three. She is a wiz and she watches/has watched cocomelon for years. My sister just limits her screen time. She likes going to trampoline parks qnd outdoor parks and doing flips and running around like most little kids. It's the stimulation. She speaks better than some adults I know 😅 and she is also very emotionally intelligent.

Our grandson has been in front of Cocomelon since he was 4 months. He’s now two, and has an amazing vocabulary, his communication skills are excellent. He sings his full ABC’s song, along with other songs. He loves cocomelon and it is enjoyable. I love the family on there.

So if the kid gives the parent ten minutes of something the parent wants, they can have five minutes of Cocomelon.
