This really makes me reflect and be grateful for the YouTube content I was exposed to, classic mcyt, game theory etc. Etc. Good quality stuff produced by good faith actors that honestly had a positive effect on my life. Sucks that stuff like this is being pushed

I haven't introduced my baby to Cocomelon ... And I don't ever plan to. I saw the TikTok videos from 1-2 years ago of parents filming their kids' responses to the Cocomelon beginning jingle, and honestly, I didn't think it was cute. It was bizarre and unsettling.

Y'all, if you think this is a bOoMer vid, actually she's entirely right! I'm 17, I study game design at university and one of my classes is all about audio-visuals, specially in trailers, movies and, ofc, games. If you think CocoMelon is fast paced, it's literally got the pace of a TRAILER. Trailers almost always have 2-3 second cuts, it only exceeds this time if it's a specially important scene used for emmphasis and to slow down the trailer, just to be cut by fast ones again (think of a bass drop but in trailers). She's really not wrong, this is not a "boomer thing" because "KiDs ThEsE dAyS KiDs My DaY no. This is audio-visual design. And again, I'm 17 and I advocate for the youth, I hate the whole "my generation was better" spiel. It's not these kids' fault.

I am so happy you made this
Some parents have said cocomelon makes their kids cry and one said "head hitting tantrums" and also kids zone out at the tv cuz of the shots being 2 seconds like you described

My baby nephew is addicted I suffered 9 months of watching it. As a person with autism it quickly overstimulated my brain and caused shutdowns .

What does it say when your kid hates it? My 1 year old changed the screen to Clifford from it. She literally hates it.

So funny I ran across this. I watch it with my niece and nephew. I knew something was of with the rapid scene changes

I’m lucky. My 4 year old is terrified of this show. She would much rather watch Bluey. Anyone looking for a good Cocomelon substitute would be better off with Bluey as far as regular kids shows and Pokémon Kids TV for the nursery rhymes and educational stuff. The camera isn’t all over the place and it’s not as overwhelming. Cocomelon gives me a headache and my daughter is frightened by the uncanny looking characters. This is a child who has sat through movies that have actual “scary” parts with no problem but she doesn’t like the “scary baby”.

3 minutes of Cocomelon had me more stressed than fucking Monster Hunter. I had to force myself to look away.

Not all kids are the same or learn the same. My son loves music so he likes cocomelon & he remembers every move they make in the songs.. however he's not stuck watching it he will put other stuff on & his favorite is blippi.

It’s funny that Cayou has a bad influence on kids in a different way than this personally I find this more interesting

I don't even have kids, but I thought I'd check out Cocomelon anyway. I was sitting there thinking "oh, wow! Look how inclusive. This is about a girl's mom who is a firefighter! Way to challenge traditional gender roles/stereotypes at an early age!"

But when I go back and look at it again... yep, it does that, but it feels like it's on 1.5x speed! The video jumped around from topic to topic at the speed of light. I was like, "Whoa, hang on, what was that last part about?" It seems like each of their 3-ish minute long videos could easily be stretched out to 15 or 20 minutes.

I guess the appeal is more for parents, they can put something on real quick to entertain the kid while they, the parents, bag groceries or some other task? (But what will the kid have even gotten out of a video with 3 minutes of jarringly fast cuts and difficult to understand song lyrics???)

Anyway, thanks for this! Like I said, I don't have kids, but you've put out something quite useful and thought-provoking here.

I couldn’t even handle America’s Funniest Home Videos as a kid.

This was upsetting to watch but I’m glad we caught it in time as our daughter used to like the show but she later had trouble sleeping

Children are attracted to a wholesome and complete family unit where everyone is kind.

I think kids shows have become faster paced as more shows are made with computer animation now. I grew up in the late 90s/early 2000s and back then there were more live action shows (at least in Australia where I live) where they'd create an actual set and people would dress up as characters (like Barney, for example). I think it was more healthy for kids because it forced the show to go at a slower pace. I enjoy animation too, but it's becoming a bit overused now.
Btw, I tried posting this comment before but I think I accidently deleted, so I'm sorry if it gets posted twice.

There was another earlier comment written about how young toddlers are so attracted to kind family units. Which Coco definitely keyed in on, and emphasizes, to have yet another element of draw. These poor babies don’t stand a chance against the evil design of this disgusting show. It’s pretty horrifying. I unknowingly exposed my 10 month old to Coco and watched about 4 episodes (under 15min) with her each morning for months. This went on until we made an out of state move. During the long drive in the car, I let her watch it for long stretches of time. Her behavior afterwards was down write disturbing. It shook me and we’ve never gone back. Her only allowed screen time now is good ole fashion PBS cartoons. No phone. Nothing else.
I knew in my gut that something was cringey about Coco from the start. I wish I would have never exposed her to it. Who knows what damage was caused. I’ll never know but always wonder. It’s a bummer to have those thoughts.
Glad you put this video out. Thanks for sharing your info.

7:05 what about drawing? Reading books? Do they cause the same effect? If so then screens are not the enemy. Talking about a ‘screen detox’ is like talking about a ‘book detox’
