Why Did Motorcycle Stall on The Road With Low Battery

Royal Enfield Motorcycle G5 had started with a push of starter switch. Went for a ride on a beautiful autumn day. It was running great until I stopped at a red traffic light. The engine stalled. There was no response when starter button was pressed. The speedometer lights were still on.

Checked battery voltage which was low 11 volts. The fuse filament between rectifier/regulator and battery looked fine and was intact. However it had a hole on the side on end cap.

Replaced fuse with a new 20 amp fuse. It took several kicks to start. Turned off headlight. Rode it back home. Took out battery and charged it with Battery Tender Junior for 13 hours.

Never leave home without a spare fuse.

The question is, why would a running bike die on you? Since the engine is running, it should generate enough voltage to keep itself running. No?
