I admittedly haven't seen the musical, but nothing will ever top the 90s movie. Everything about it is damn perfect. It's criminally underappreciated.

Edit: Can see there’s actually a lot more enthusiasm for this now, it’s fair enough if you disagree with the below comment. I think we should wait and see cause there’s a great creative team behind it!

Good Lord people, do some research before you comment. This isn’t a remake of the original film it’s an adaptation of the stage musical by Tim Minchin. It was a smash hit on broadway and in the west end.

I grew up with the original movie and loved it as a kid. It’s great that the new movie is based on the musical. It feels like another adaptation of the book instead of a traditional remake. Can’t wait to see it.

Going with an adaptation of the musical and giving it its own feel and style is an A+ move. Obviously people will compare it to the 1990s film, but this feels like it's really trying to do its own thing.

The throwing the child scene will always be legendary no matter what version of Matilda this is.

"Quiet" is one of my absolute favourite songs from any musical I've ever seen or heard. I can't wait to see and hear how this movie portrays it (and the reveal of Matilda's powers in general).

I'm both excited and terrified. The original, and especially the book, is still amazing to me. I hope this does it justice! (Emma looks amazing)

I don’t know if anybody can do a version better than the original. The original is a

Whoever did the set design for this movie deserves an Oscar! It’s stunning!

“See if that child is still alive” that line shouldn’t make me laugh but it somehow does 😁

My theater group and I were so proud to perform Matilda The Musical on a small tour a while back, and I couldn’t have been happier getting the role of Matilda Wormwood herself! This movie will definitely bring back some nostalgia, and I cannot wait to sing “Naughty” and “Quiet” while watching it on the big screen! :)

Matilda (1996) is such a classic. I love that movie for so many reasons.

I saw Matilda at the Cambridge theater on London’s west end, back in the fall of 2018, and thought it was the best musical I’d ever seen!!! After seeing it, I wanted everyone to see it! I’m beyond ecstatic that it’ll be available to everyone to see this fall. If you can, see it in the cinema!

Once I tell my mom about this she's about to go into a shocking overwhelming wave of nostalgia

I acted in this musical years ago and honestly I feel happy of this movie, it’s not the remake but instead it’s based on the musical, personally I feel honored bc it brings the memories of all the process when I participated on this amazing musical

This movie looks ridiculously good. The actress playing the trunchbull is unreal.

I have a good feeling watching this. I'm not trying to judge too much because you never know. But it being a musical vs the original and having a different feel to it. I'm excited! One of my childhood favorites!

You can tell from this trailer alone that Emma Thompson was having so much fun with this role.

I’m relieved it’s an adaptation of the musical. Danny Devito‘s version was just so perfect I didn’t think there was a need for another version. With the only exception being the musical. I’m just disappointed they couldn’t get the guy who was on the Broadway version to play the Trunch. And if they had to go with a Woman I would’ve much rather have seen if they could get Pam Ferris to return to the role.

The original Mrs Trunchbull was so perfect. She was even the annoying aunt in Harry Potter
