This is what I do! A really sweet older lady came up to me and said “Oh, you’re a good thrifter! You know how to do it!” And it made me smile :)

YEP! this is what i always tell people! 90% of my wardrobe is either thrifted or upcycled from thrifted. i look through every. single. clothing item. you cant find the cute stuff if you didnt look for it in the first place!

The crossing of the legs is so real and I can't explain it but it's the only valid way of walking when thrifting

I look for sizes, fabric textures, and price. If I get that, then I pull it out and look at it. If you go through the racks slowly looking at everything, you will never get out of the store! And get bored. Think about it. If you don't like the color, or it won't go with anything in your closet, why look? Bringing home things, you'll only wear once or never.Isn'tt saving you any money. If it's not what you want to spend, why look? If it's not your size, why look? It will just make you sad that youcan'tt fit into it. Or too much work to make it fit. Again, why look? You'll get through the space much faster, and you may actually find something.

The 🔑 is to have standards while thrifting. I try not to buy any synthetic fabric, no polyester, rayon, nylon, etc. (UNLESS it’s true vintage, like I bought a polyester mix dress because it was beaded beautifully on the back, and it was from the 90s and GORGEOUS); I don’t buy anything that I can’t fit into; if I think “maybe I could make it work, ” it’s a no; if anything needs altered I will not buy it (if I knew how to do it, I would!! I’m trying to practice on what I already have); and if I have anything similar, unless it’s a basic/staple that I will wear another version of, I put it back. Anything that COULD be for an occasion also goes back.
So 🔑 points for me
Fabric/material makeup [only cotton, silk, etc; no polyester, rayon, nylon, etc]
Size
No alterations
Price is also important! My goodwill is my price guideline, as well as “can I buy this twice?” Or “if this was at the mall, would I actually buy it? Or is it just cheap and something vaguely my style?”

sooo true! you have to look to EVERY piece that’s on rack because usually the best pieces are hidden somewhere between the rest of the clothes that you don’t like

i had never gone thrifting before, and i couldn’t find anything i liked. my mom who had grown up in lower class and could only afford to get things at the thrift store, shows up with a massive pile of cute clothes 😭 it really is a skill

thrifting + learning how to sew is a dynamic duo

honestly thrifting is waaay more fun - it feels like “regular shopping” is just shopping on easy mode. Who wants that? I want that challenge 😜

It also helps to know roughly what you're looking for. What kind of garment, what color, what fabric, for which occasion etc.

That’s me!! I flip through everything really fast, If it doesn’t catch my eye and make me do a double take it wasn’t meant to be. It’s also how I’m able to get through the whole store so I don’t feel like I might’ve missed out on something good 😂

You have to go in kind of knowing what you want. There are days I walk out with nothing, but I’m also looking for more vintage or vintage inspired clothes…decor is never hard to find.

Random people complimenting your thrifting skills are the best

Turns out if you’re healthy and happy you can wear anything.

yeah you really have to commit to the full rack. just keep flipping and you never know what you'll find. bring some earbuds or headphones to make the shopping a bit more fun since its a long process ♡

The slow foot over foot while scanning down the aisle lol

I’ve gotten so much better since learning textiles. I can spot Levi’s out of racks on racks of denim by eying the fabric. You can get even better AND not have to look at everything by learning a bit about clothes!!

I look like the 2nd option but don’t find anything, it’s not hard to believe people just don’t find stuff they like lol
