How to clean thrifted / second hand clothing - a dry cleaner's guide

Here is a dry cleaners guide to cleaning thrifted or second hand clothing. Doing all of these steps is a bit excessive, but hopefully one or two of my recommendations will stick for you!

1) Pretreating odors or stains with a high quality stain remover is a great place to start. The longer these products sit on soil the better they work
2) Adding laundry boosters into your laundry will raise the pH of your water and allow detergents to work better. If you include sodium percarbonate in your mixture it will also whiten and brighten.
3) Downy Rinse & Refresh is an amazing fabric stripper that blasts away odors due to it's extremely low pH. This is an ideal product for older clothing with funky smells.
4) Using a laundry detergent made specifically for odors is a good idea too!
5) EnviroKlenz's odor removing supplement is also a very strong product for stink

I'd like to see what it looks like after all that detergent and cleaning.

where’s the reveal? You can’t make a statement like “look like no one’s worn it before” and then not show us proof

Thanks for showing and proving to me that Downy Rinse & Refresh is a bonafide detergent “stripper.” Apparently, I wasted my first bottle on a day's worth of wash. I wasn't aware that I only needed to use less than a Tbls worth😵‍💫.

That stuff is better than vinegar!

Looking at this garment, which I grew up seeing my dad wear plus having worn variations of it myself in the 70s and 80s, and hearing it referred to as "vintage" is surreal. 😳

Australia: you can get washing soda at woolies, it’s sodium carbonate which is a more effective version of baking soda. Borax is sold here too, mostly at coles. It’s banned in the UK. Last ingredient is just bicarb soda.

Downy rinse + refresh can only be bought online for like $6-$10. Downy brand is in store but I don’t know how the different products would go.

I just changed my laundry soap to persil. I use two tablespoons max for xl loads. My clothes smell cleaner, look brighter, and feel more clean!

Better be valuable clothes because this procedure would be very expensive at a dry cleaner.

I hope you can do a series where you show us product alternatives per country. Hello, I barely know how to do laundry and your videos help me a lot but it's hard for me to find good alternatives in my budget 😅

Am I the only one who watches this with interest but always knowing I’ll never buy such a battery of different products?
