First look at Google’s new TV streamer and Nest Thermostat

Google has announced a new Nest Learning Thermostat 4th Gen, a new Google TV Streamer 4K (aka a Chromecast in a box), and that it’s bringing Gemini intelligence to its Google Home smart home – plus a new voice for the Google Assistant. We got a first look at the new hardware and features.

I'm not hopeful for anything in google AI until they figure out how to merge Gemini and Assistant. It's a nightmare trying to use both

Stupid that software features like "averaging temperature sensors across your home" are being gated to the new generation Nest only. Why can't the current Nest + temp sensors do that?

Nervous about the streamer only being 22% faster. I was hoping they'd just toss in an old Tensor chip like Apple and charge like $200. But hopefully it runs well enough. Definitely grabbing one

For it to be standing instead of hanging from the TV (hidden), I'm surprised it isn't like 50-70 % faster then the previous Chromecast with Google TV.

To not include a USB port for playing media on a media device is absolutely wild. Semi understandable with the former puck design but a decent size box and not include it is unacceptable.

IT has on-board storage of 32gb, not expandable storage of 32gb.
Plus only 22% faster isn't a huge boost coming from the previous Google TV dongle which is pretty sluggish

Doesn’t sound like the Google Home hardware will be running AI models. Rather, most AI enhancements are coming to the Home app with some potentially relying on the cloud.

Absolutely hate Google’s reliance on the cloud, especially without much talk of protecting user’s data on that cloud from themselves.

Does anyone know if you need to remove the backing plate from the previous thermostat or can you just swap the new thermostat into place without having to disconnect all the wires?
