Google Pixel 9 – An iPhone User's Perspective!

I switched to Google's Pixel 9 for a week, coming from an iPhone 15 Pro and wow, the switch was surprisingly great! It's the first Pixel phone I've reviewed and a lot has surprised me in the last week using the Pixel 9 daily from its cameras, UI, and Gemini AI. In this review, I compare the Pixel 9 and iPhone 15 Pro cameras, take it around and test its battery life, Google ecosystem and Android 14.
What are your thoughts on the new Pixel 9 lineup?

📸 Which photos are nicer: iPhone or Pixel?

that case + phone color combo is perfection! you should call it the "watermelon"

glad to see an detailed look into the regular Pixel 9 and not the Pro or the fold like most other launch coverage rn. The camera test is wild that there’s so little between an iPhone that’s double the price

Am going to be honest, I didn't know you, had never seen a single video from your channel but 6 minutes into this one and I already subscribed. You are the right person for a tech review. Awesome job mate. 👍🏾👍🏾

Pixel and iPhone images are so iconic, consistent and different. I immediately recognized which photos were taken from which phone.

Switched from iPhone to Pixel about 6 years ago. Have an iPhone from work, and I couldn't imagine going back to the iPhone software. The Pixel software is just way more streamlined for what I use. I use Google Assitant a lot, and it's been way better than Siri for a long time - hoping Gemini will continue its upward trend. And honestly, I can't deal with phones that don't have good spam filtering anymore. The number of spam calls I get on my iPhone is wild, whereas I've gotten maybe 2 spam calls on my Pixel since they rolled out that feature - and no false positives so far, which I was slightly concerned about.

Although, I do miss the fingerprint reader on the back and the squeeze for assitant feature from my Pixel 3 😭. I might be the only one, but I used that squeeze feature so much

They gave me an iPhone at my work after being on Android since day one. I want to like it. They can do all of the same things but it seems like everything takes 1-2 extra steps on ios and I feel android is now the easier operating system for seniors and the technologically impaired.

I appreciate an android/iPhone review that doesn't have that weird, partisan vibe that so many of these comparisons do. You stuck to objectivity. The only reason I don't consider Android options—and I know there are many good ones—is that I'm immersed in the Apple ecosystem and really like how seamlessly everything works together. Great job on the review!

This was one of the best comparison videos I've seen thank you. I'm coming from the iPhone Pro 15 max to the pixel 9 pro xl. I've had the opposite experience with camera focus, the pixel pro is super snappy and even the face unlock is instant for me before I even fully turn the phone over. I thought it was broken until I disguised my face and tried again lol.

Probably the best Pixel 9 review I’ve seen, both from an imagery standpoint and in its content. Awesome job!

I'd say that you should compare it with a Pixel 9 Pro.

9:25 just being closed or open source doesn't make an operating system more secure. Security depends on how it's built, maintained, and updated, not just whether the code is public or private.

I used iPhones through the 7th generation before deciding to just try Android. I've had the Pixel 7 (standard) for the last couple years and it's been great! I'm likely to upgrade to the 9 Pro (smaller) soon. And I have to say... When I pick up an iPhone nowadays, I feel confused and lost on how to do basic stuff. iOS just doesn't make sense to me anymore at all, since I've left the iOS / MacOS ecosystem.

If anyone out there is an iPhone user thinking of making the jump, don't make a huge deal out of it. Buy a used phone and try it out for a month. It's less dramatic than you might think.

Best review of the Pixel 9 by a long shot. I really enjoyed this format, it's balanced, unbiased and I appreciate the fresh perspective from a non-Pixel user. And a treat on the eyes with beautiful video work! Subbed and I'll be tuning in for your tech reviews, keep up the good work brilliant stuff 👍

I was immersed in Apple's ecosystem too, but I always carried a Pixel for the camera, while using an iPhone for everything else.

Alas, when my iPhone conked out, I switched over to the Pixel supposedly temporarily, but ended up staying on it.

I don't miss iMessage at all because Google Messenger can easily be accessed on a Mac or iPad, moreso than iMessage on a PC.

The ONLY things I *kind of* miss are Airdrop and Continuity, but those are never very reliable anyhow.

So for now, Pixel + Mac is my setup, which in my opinion beats the odd combination of iPhone + PC, which many people seem to have.

I've been using the iPhone XR for five years, and with Apple's upgrades this year, I thought it might be worth the switch. But after seeing the reviews for the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro, the Pixel seems like a better choice, especially given the price. I don't see much difference between the Pro and the standard version, aside from the extra camera, so I'm leaning towards the Pixel 9.
