The bezels are irrelevant when considering they actually put the camera in the correct place for a tablet-- in the bezels. How can anyone argue that what Samsung is doing (sloppily pushing pixels across a lousy under-display camera) is better from a usability standpoint?

when will they be available in Australia?

For a first generation device from google it looks really solid, reminds me of the Microsoft duo but with a folding display instead of two separate displays.

Unfortunately like the duo the pixel fold is shipping with severely outdated performance, the tensor G2 is on par with the 3 year old SD 888 and for $1, 800 these kinds of devices MUST come with the latest and greatest chip. This alone has me holding back from buying one.

I had the flip 3 and it was all problems with the screen creasing and recently going black and loosing touch screen. Im moving to Google and really want this but concerned out screen quality.

At first, I wanted the white (porcelain) color of the Pixel Fold. Get the one Michael Fisher is getting. But now I'm preferring the black (or obsidian) one. I know it looks boring but I prefer the matte back finish. And when it's unfolded, it looks better. If it's white, it looks odd when opened up contrasting to the black front.

My iPhone 7, Pixel 3, and Z Flip 3 are matte black. It's a little boring but it never fails as black matches well with any other colored case. Considering I'm getting a case for it which is usually dark, getting it in either color wouldn't matter. But I'm digging that obsidian more. I'm not getting that clear case any more. The obsidian is more uniformed to the black front when opened.

I was ok with the silver iPhone X and white backs. But for a book-style foldable, it just doesn't look right when opened and the colors are so contrasting. The Pixel Fold is basically the Surface Duo 3 if Microsoft went foldable.

The cameras are as good as other Pixels, if not better than some. I know the ultrawide camera on the back will be better than Pixel 7 and it even has a telephoto camera, which Pixel 6a, 7a, and 7 don’t. So the camera experience looks to be better overall already.

Why is Google releasing phones so quick lol and why would anyone spend $1700 on a phone that is way to pricing.

Glad to see this guy again since he disappeared from Engadget.

How come Chinese folding phones don't have a visible crease? Even Samsung can't make a phone with minimum crease...

*Pixel* *Fold's* *Biggest* *Turn-offs*
1. Price tag of $1800
2. A first generation product
3. Using last year's Tensor chip
4. Crease
5. Lack of stylus support

I think the bezels are no big deal. People own an iPad mini 6 or Surface Duo 1 or 2 with huge bezels and nobody whines about them. People still praise the design of the iPhone 5/5S/SE1 and HTC One M7/M8 with huge bezels.

I don't believe this Pixel Fold will sell even 1M. It's not going to be the best or most popular phone release this year. But I think for tech nerds, it's going to be the most exciting for them. It's something a little different. I expect the Z Fold 5 to be more of the same. The Flip 5 and Razr Ultra 40 don't wow me. I want a book-style foldable this time.

Underrated aspects would be fingerprint scanner on the power button. Much faster than in-display or Face ID. Will come with Android 13 as 14 will soon prevent sideloading older apps. Rounded sides which makes it more gentle in the palm of your hands. Wider cover display for better typing without opening it up. Z Folds are tall and narrow. Makes things a little awkward.

Or we could all just wait and wait. Hope prices go down to a more reasonable $1000 which was unreasonable in 2017. Let these techtubers be the guinea pigs and overspend money on gadgets we're still reluctant in purchasing. We know Google's history with first gen products. Apple didn't get it right until iPhone 4. Pixel might have peaked by 2 XL or 3.

I expect the Pixel Fold with Tensor G5 made by TSMC will be the one when Pixel Fold might start to peak. That could take 3 more years with the Pixel Fold 4. Could some of us really wait that long? And what if it gets too big by then and it offers the sharper sides commonly found in kitchen utensils? And if we wait by then, these foldables will no longer feel fresh and exciting.

Google phones do get BIGGER by Gen 6...
Nexus One
Nexus S
Galaxy Nexus
Nexus 4
Nexus 5
Nexus 6 ("Shamu")
Nexus 6P

Pixel
Pixel 2
Pixel 3
Pixel 4
Pixel 5
Pixel 6
Pixel 7

I'm not even interested in that Pixel 7a for $499 because I still find it too big. And I'm not a fan of sharper sides introduced by the Pixel 6. Or the glossy glass backs. The obsidian (black) Pixel Fold feels perfect in size and shape.

Matte rears, FTW! This is why I went with the matte black Z Flip 3 when everyone got the glossy glass colors. My matte black iPhone 7 still feels like a dream to hold and is only 138.3 mm in height or 1.4 mm shorter than the Pixel Fold.

This is Google's GOAT Pixel coming soon. Too bad it's stuck with Tensor G2 when G3 comes out in October. Can't wait for Michael Fisher to enjoy it. He's Mr. Foldable Mobile. It's going to be severely flawed like with any first gen product but I think many tech nerds are going to still love it.

I'm buying one just to baffle and confound the "huge bezel" haters. It's worth the extra cash for that alone 😂

i personally think fold phones are stupid but i am curious to see what else it can do

Google should have put a stylus inside the phone, they would have killed the game and my wallet if they did that

Though I like the form factor, the outdated processor, the probably bad battery life, the thick bezels, the crease, for that ridiculous price, the answer is no. Though the Fold 5s form factor won't be as good, the narrowness of the front screen to me is perfect for one hand and if they prove that the battery is very good and that the crease is barely visible, then maybe I'll consider that phone when the price drops.

I'll wait for the 2nd generation to come out so that hardware and software bugs are worked out. Then I'll wait for the 3rd generation to come out so that the second generation goes on sale.

Nah thanks. The crease is still a dealbreaker for me. Plus, I love my S23 Ultra so much. Can't picture myself yet using another phone. But I wonder how instagram shows on the pixel fold.
