Why You Should NOT Go Vegan

I first went vegan back in 2012, initially because I wanted to adopt a healthier diet but also because I didn’t want to cause harm to animals or the environment. But over the last 8 years or so, I’ve noticed a lot of people have become vegan and eventually fell of the wagon and weren’t able to sustain it - both online and in real life.

First, let’s define what veganism is - it’s a lifestyle that abstains the exploitation of animals. While a plant based diet is a huge aspect of veganism, the mindful choices about the type of clothing and cosmetics that you use or abstaining from going to places that captivate animals such as zoos or places like Seaworld. I’m not saying that all of these people to stopped being vegan didn’t know this stuff, some certainly didn’t, but many people think that diet is all there is to it.

If you listen to these people who make their videos about quitting veganism, you find that they talk about the health issues that they experienced while being vegan - making it seem like a vegan diet is supposed to be healthier than a diet with animal products. It seems that a lot of people, just like myself, adopt a vegan lifestyle thinking that they’ll experience health benefits but when you actually look at their diet and lifestyle, you find that in most cases they weren’t ever really eating healthy in the first place.

You see, a vegan diet can simply be a diet composed of potato chips and coke. We all know that’s not healthy but that’s also vegan. Honestly, many of those people who eat a ton of processed foods and experience health problems would have been better off eating mostly a whole food, plant based diet even if it did have a little bit of animal products in it instead of going full carnivore like some people. And by the way, I’m NOT promoting meat, dairy, eggs, or fish but a diet made up of a ton processed foods isn’t gonna be a whole lot better.

Also, a healthy diet isn’t just about eating the right foods because I also agree that many of these people who stop being vegan actually do eat a whole food, plant based diet but eating a healthy diet also means eating the right amount of food. I mean I can’t tell you how many of these people under-ate in calories, which can lead to not getting in enough of other nutrients. And not only did some under-eat but also went on extended, non-supervised water fasts which can be really dangerous if not done properly.

I guess the reason I’m making this video is because I want to see you succeed if you are thinking about going vegan. It’s not because I want to shame anyone for quitting veganism or for wanting to just eat plant based or for wanting to go vegan just for the animals. I think you should always do what makes sense. For me, it’s about taking care of my body with healthy, whole plant based that don’t harm the animals and are more sustainable for the Earth. It sounds like a bunch of hippy stuff, I know. But please don’t just depend on the internet for your nutrition/medical advice because there is so much crazy advice and information out there. Please always seek the recommendations of a registered dietitian because if they know what they are talking about and have read the position paper form the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, they will agree that you can absolutely be 100% fully vegan for the animals and the planet while still being healthy.

I went plant based for my health, followed a lot of people that didn't know what they were doing, and made a lot of mistakes with my health, kept educating myself (on all aspects of veganism, including the food part), finally found what works for me, and became a compassionate vegan along the way. This is not just a diet, it is a way of living, and yes there is a lot of change, but after some time, it gets easier.
Those that went plant based and quit, quit because they were following a rigid diet that lacked in so many ways. Forget water fasts, juice fasts, smoothie cleanses, all fruit, no oil, no fat diets (the word DIEt is the keyword - they don't work). Focus instead on eating a variety of food that grows from the ground or falls from the trees (and in their raw form as much as possible), include healthy FATS, because they won't kill you, enjoy your favorite foods (veganised, of course), stop fussing and obsessing over every little thing you eat, and you will thrive on this way of living!

U don't go vegan and quit. U go plant based and quit. Veganism is not a diet. Veganism is an ethical belief and lifestyle of compassion and empathy

I suffered from metabolic syndrome (obesity, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and high blood sugar). I went whole food plant based no sugar oil or salt and I lost 65 pounds, all my conditions greatly improved, my gums stopped bleeding, and erections and energy returned. I used to have an appetite that was never satisfied; whole foods cured it. I no longer use a sleep apnea machine. Finally, the food is cheap-Beans, lentils, rice, potatoes and seasonal apples. Also, I save money by not having to buy pills or visit the Doctor. I am thankful to all the vegans who suffered attacks to reveal the truth to me.

To be honest I want to go vegan because of environmental and health reasons. But I can't do that until I move out cause my Mom is incredibly against it, saying "it's unhealthy" "you wont get a good balanced diet" "you'll ruin yourself trying" etc. But when I move out I want to become vegan and also be as sustainable and 'zero waste' as possible. It won't matter if she doesn't like it, it's not her body.

Yes, do what's right for you. Me personally I'm vegan only because, I couldn't stomach no more of eating an animal 🤮 it wasn't for the health benefits it was just that . NICE VIDEO 😊

I do agree to all of those reasons why a vegan diet failed for some, but there is one big elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about which are digestive issues or gut dysbiosis. A lot of people who come to this lifestyle have these gut issues and when it gets worse, they blame the diet and go on the carnivore diet instead. To know more about the cause of these digestive issues, you can listen to plant based Dr. Zach Bush on this topic of the microbiome, and what has been ailing most people since 1992, the science is all there. Here is the title to search for on Youtube j " Zach Bush SNC 2018 Health Impacts of Large Scale Chemical Farming "

I think we all know who That Vegan Teacher is, and I think the problem with her is that she shouldn’t care about what other people eat, and shouldn’t force her opinion on other people calling them murderers, trying to make them feel like horrible people. Also, This is a great video btw

Great video! We are both in our 80's and are all about healthy aging. Eating whole-food plant-based (not vegan) is a big part of it! Our goal is to "Die Young...As Late as possible!" Need to maintain a strong body, calm mind, & positive outlook. We're doing some research for our new healthy-aging advice YouTube channel to inspire others. Learned from you. TY, Bob & Fran

I can't go vegan. The only thing vegan in my life is my makeup, nail polish, and skin care products because I'm literally allergic to a lot of metals and things they put in non vegan skin care and beauty products. I have attempted to go vegan, mostly because I don't like a lot of meat, but I rapidly (in an unhealthy way) lost weight and it made me more tired than I should've been, so I went back to a balanced portioned diet, where I eat only a little meat. I respect animals. I love them. I own hamsters. But I just don't wanna risk my health.

Try an experiment vegans. Put your dog on a vegan diet. Watch what happens to your dog. You will see your dogs hair grey and blindness and bone density loss. That's what will happen to you too.

First of all this video was wonderful pointing to all the character flaws and not in detail cause you clearly didn’t have enough time however you should start slow and not just think it’s ok to cold turkey and do so by implementing the right foods in. Once you’re able to prepare them to your liking and be versatile in doing so then you can substitute but first be happy with what you are choosing and how you are feeling inwardly and outwardly. Learn more and strive more and then others will ask questions and you can show them your results and please people journal and write the pros and cons because they have a big impact as well. I like this video God’s name or power wasn’t used in vain and I heard no cursing and so I could understand with my family beside me and also share it. Kid friendly knowledgeable and helpful thanks and I love you all!

i physically cannot go vegan anymore, as when i was eating meat and dairy products, i was healthy and happy with my life and food. on social media (about 5 years ago) someone inspired me to go vegan. at the time, i agreed with everything they said, like when they said that there are NO excuses to not go vegan. i found that they were wrong about three months later, and by that time, the vegan lifestyle had taken over. i wouldnt eat anything other people made me, as i thought they would trick me into eating animal products. i was scared of restaurants, any food i looked at and was swiftly diagnosed with anorexia and anxiety. at the time, (not anymore im alright now) i was already experiencing depression. any food was scary and even looking at an animal gave me flashbacks of animal slaughter adverts forcing you to go vegan on tv. i was weak and helpless sitting on my couch with a fucking tube in my throat. if you experienced any trauma with food, it would help to not go vegan.

You should watch Anthony Chaffee. He completeley disagrees with you but he makes some great points.

I am vegan for the animals. It was very easy for me to become vegan, and I am vegan for life. Falling off the wagon will only happen if my values fall off the wagon. I don’t see that happening ever. :)

For 1 billion dollars, would you eat red meat, poultry, or fish only 3 days a year? You could choose whichever 3 days of the year that you wanted, and you could choose whatever red meat, poultry, or fish you want. If you agreed to that deal, but there was 1 year where you went without eating those animal foods for 3 days, you would have to pay the 1 billion dollars back. You would also have to eat at least 16 ounces or 450 grams of whatever meat you choose for each day.
