Something doesn’t seem right about this crash scenario.

There is no way the autopilot was in fault.
1- you can't set autopilot 5 miles above speed limit
2- autopilot would never take a turn in such high speed
3- current autopilot version doesn't work on not marked street

The guy crashed the car, quickly hops into the back seat. Blames autopilot. Let's see how the story unfolds...

Actually what happened here is that the autopilot is so advanced it detected the owner was a complete moron and decided to end his germ line

So a car on the road with nobody in the driver's seat crashes & that's supposed to be a surprise just because it's a Tesla? Alright

There is way more to this story than what we have learned here. I've been driving Tesla since 2016. This scenario as described is nearly impossible. You cannot "trick" the system into thinking you're in the driver's seat and fully alert and paying attention. Don't believe all of the crap you read about water bottles, oranges, etc attached to the steering wheel that fool the car into thinking you're there when you are not. Also, the gymnastics required to exit the driver's seat and climb into the back seat after you have set the cruise would be nearly impossible for the average system. Once the system detects that the driver is not paying attention, it will warn, beep, and soon slow to a stop.
As for the assertion that people have posted videos of sleeping drivers in Teslas is another falsehood. These are setup videos at best. Again the Tesla has many safety features that will not allow you to continue to drive after about 30 seconds of it not getting feedback from the driver.

The media & their so called experts once again proves they have no clue what the difference is between Tesla's "Autopilot" and "Full Self Driving (FSD)" features are. They are 2 totally different features and no matter how many times the media wants to make them the same, they are not.

Autopilot will disengage as soon as the driver's seat belt is unfastened and the car will pull itself over and put the hazards on.

Can someone show me how to put the car on auto pilot when there's no lane markings in a residential neighborhood? You can't...and this car crashed a few yards down the road from where they live. So you are telling me they enabled autopilot in area where you can't and all jumped into the back seats and passenger seats while the car accelerates to highway speed?

if this is the case people did stupid things... the owner of the car was at fault. 100%

Basically, Tesla "autopilot" is not autopilot feature. It is just a level 2 autonomous driving system. Honda has released a car with level 3 autonomous driving, called Honda legend.

My understanding is that all events that take place are recorded individually by the Tesla’s 4 cameras IF a USB recordable device has been installed properly. And I believe Tesla can review data from the car to determine what happened, too. Driving my Tesla for a year now causes this situation to fail the smell test IMO.

Real simple the driver was showing off launch mode and went fast as hell on the strait and took the corner to fast, hit a tree, car burst into flames couldn’t get out of the drivers door so climbed into he back but didn’t beat the flames and died in the back seat. Crash probably knocked out the passenger from the start

horrifically wrong reporting regarding blaming Tesla Autopilot

Commercial airplanes fly on autopilot most of the time but you still need pilots at the helm for emergencies. Why do people think they can have no one in the driver's seat?

Random guy from Bloomberg News slanders Tesla by saying “Autopilot” and “Full Self Driving” interchangeably. RIP to those who passed in this incident.
