Either way, today's video brings a fresh perspective on the Ten Commandments and talks about the way we can actually obey them (only through Jesus). In my years as a believer, I've picked up on little details regarding these commandments that've changed my view of them and appreciation for them. Watch 'til the end for some insight on all this! I've come to identify myself as an apophatic Christian, which is to say, since God is unknowable, he can only reveal Himself in the way that He is not. Jesus is The Word; He is God both shaping the world and He is the God as He *can* be known.

There's an interesting etymology to 'fulfillment' that can be discussed; fulfillment narratives say that the meaning of a text is literally 'filled full' by a new layer of meaning provided by a later text. So, for example, the many prophecies of Jesus' coming did not originally refer to Him, but their meaning has been 'filled full' to where we can now understand them to have pointed to him as well.

When the Jewish people fled Egypt (which is probably an allegory for Babylon, but I digress), they had to start more or less from scratch. The many commandments in the old testament can be understood as what God permitted, not what God ultimately wants.

For example, let's take the commandment about not eating pork. Imagine now that Jesus revealed to us that God actually wants it to be vegetarian. He didn't, but let us imagine. Jesus' revelation now 'fills full' the commandment about not eating pork. God permitted the Jews to eat meat that was not pork, but, in this hypothetical scenario, He reveals through Jesus that He wishes for us to abstain from all meat.

That is, essentially, how Jesus 'fulfills' the Laws of Moses and why He seems to simultaneously advocate for keeping the laws as they are and adding a new commandment on top of them. Jesus reveals that God tolerated when the Jews felt hate towards their neighbors, but it is not what He ultimately wants. Do not even think with lust for someone else's partner and you won't be tempted to commit adultery.

Now, here's the trick. God became flesh, because He wished to be known, but God is unknowable. Jesus is what I call 'The Knowable God'. When Jesus died on the cross, he proclaimed 'Oh God, why have you forsaken me', but this can be read as a statement of mysticism, where The Word fails and can no longer contain the full magnitude of God. Jesus, the Knowable God, revealing his Knowable commandments through fulfillment, has to die to reveal that God is, indeed, not knowable and, in unknowing, the shroud around the Holiest-of-Holies is ripped to allow us to approach Him personally.

After His death, Jesus continued to bestow more revelations through His apostles. These revelations at times can be thought to conflict with His revelations in life, but if we now look back towards the techniques of fulfillment and redemption that Jesus taught His disciples, we can now continue the task of fulfillment in His name with the assistance of the Holy Spirit.

TLDR: God is and was unknowable, but Jesus revealed how to use fulfillment to 'fill full' the commandments and to look past their literal meaning and to how the commandments are 'filled full' through personal revelation.

Next you should talk about God's commandment to abort fetuses that're the result of adultery (Numbers 5:11-31) and when God says slaves should obey their masters (Exodus 21:2-11, Lev 25:44-46) And it's not just in the old testament, also the new testament (Ephesians 6:5-9, Colossians 3:22-4:1, 1 Timothy 6:1-2, Titus 2:9-10, 1 Peter 2:18-20)
