Because of the Covid, my School Language depend on Universite, close down for a while. Thereafter nothing was the same, even later we must attend with a mask. For two years I have typed more than usual. Handwriting by hand was dropped out and we got used to typing and typing over and over again losing my ability by handwriting. In the meantime, we attend school only for the final tasks. I passed by the last year without a problem, but this year barely I had written by hand a result I realize I had lost the ability with my handwriting. As the result, It was funny when I did my last writing exam, I had jotted down before copy on the Oficial Sheet three or four times. Although I type so quick, from then I jot down every day four times more than before.

Everything has its flip side. While new technologies allow human beings to be smarter, quicker and more efficient, it has us lost skills that were previously of high price. I visited a couple of week ago a Museum of Prehistoric Times in Saint-Germain- en-Laye (France) and I was struck by the incredibly beautiful objects Neolithic people could make from stones. Their know-how however became worthless as bronze tools and weapons spread everywhere. They were better, cheaper and allowed new kinds of tools to be made. A whole civilization so disappeared. I'm 73 now, and cursive writing was a major skill when I was a schoolboy. This time might be eventually over now. But I feel lucky though, because I have seen and been part of different cultures.

There were a few words in that first example that threw me, the handwriting was just a little to tight and undefined for me to make sense of it all but I got the general gist. It’s crazy that some people couldn’t read any of that. Plus how are people creating their signatures nowadays if they can’t write cursive? Surely they’re not just printing their name as a signature?

Thanks for this beautiful video Jennifer! I think technology has kind of snatched many good things from us. I would say stuff written by our hands is emotionally more charged than what we write on our screens today.
Thanks!
Take care!

I taught myself a little bit English cursive and calligraphy…but I can only read them very slowly. I don’t understand why people nowadays still write in cursive especially when their writings are for others to read! They are quite messy and confuse everyone in my opinion!

I am an English learner, and, the cursive writing style has been indecipherable to me, which I occasionally encounter.

It occurred to me that why not just practice it, found this video, and this is exactly what I needed. This video makes cursive from a massive mess to something enjoyable. Realized that just looking at people’s writing brings me a sense of joy.

Thanks a lot!

Cursive is so much faster and easier than printing. Actually, after learning cursive in grade school, it was required for all assignments and printing was not allowed. To this day. I still feel that printing is for children.
