It's been over 5 years since I last counted my physical "to-be-read", so I thought it was time for the confrontation!! (for your reference, I believe I only had about 17 unread books on mt TBR back then...)

Unread books are as important as the read ones imo. It's like being surrounded by so much potential.

I have this rule for myself: never have more than 10 books on your physical tbr. I will not buy more books if I have 10 unread books, even though I really want! And it really helps! Only exception is when people give me books as a gift and I didn't know about it

Since you do have the the trolley, you could move books off that when you have read them, and replace that with a book from your shelf that's unread. That way you would slowly transition your shelves to books you have read already

I totally feel you! I have like 180-190 unread books on my shelves right now and it can be stressful at times to realize that.
I came up with a rule that I'm trying to follow: I track the number of books that I read each month and also a number of books that I buy each month. And the rule is that the number of books that I bought has to be smaller than the number of books that I read. And it's kinda helpful because in the end I actually read more books than I actually buy. So the number of unread books is slowly decreasing. Slowly, but it does.

it personally motivates me to read my owned books by keeping a list of them in my journal and ticking them off once i read/dnf them, although it's also a bit stressful :D i currently have 77 unread books out of around 150 and i'm planning on not buying any books this year or at least buy less than last year (i bought 9 in 2020) since having them is starting to stress me out even though i've had this rule for myself for over a year now to only buy books i've already read and love so that i don't regret a purchase

To be honest I love having loads of books to read - it doesn't stress me out but motivates me, though it can be daunting at times

I’ve got 200+ and I’m super motivated to get through about 50 of them this year, finger’s crossed! I’ve been limiting my buying to just hardbacks or special editions (Fairyloot, Illumicrate, and OwlCrate) and considering they’re more expensive, I won’t buy as many as usual. Interesting logic there 😅📚

You are going so well! I think I have about 600 on my TBR 😳📚. I’m doing a while Balancing the Books thing this year where I must read more books off my tbr than i purchase in the month. January I received 9 (Arc, library or purchase) and read 9 so balanced, but not the one over like I wanted.

so many romances!!!! haha you should definitely bump "where the crawdads sing" up on your list, it's so fast-paced! i loved normal people by sally rooney, but since the reviews were so mixed i wouldn't necessarily recommend it to move to the top of your list, but definitely pretty close haha

For the last few years now I've been doing a tbr list at the beginning of each year, so basically for example all my physical unread books right at the beginning of 2021 and since I have the lists from the last few year's I can mark the books by when I bought them
Helps a lot with reading books that have been on your shelves for a long time

Hahaha I felt this video in my soul. I have about ~150 unread (too scared to count the updated number lol, it was around 140 a month ago). But we will get through it!! :, )

Absolutely loved Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. It was my favourite book of 2020! I have The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August on my February TBR. I enjoyed Where the Crawdads Sing too. Definite 4 star read for me. {insert stack of books}

You have so many great books in your stash! Even though you still have to read them, I am a bit jealous :p It looks like your own personal library that you can browse in and pick from every time! And the color coordination is *chef's kiss*
I just counted and have 23 unread books. I bought a couple of new ones but am currently reading them (the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy is totally amazing, recommend!), and I worked towards reading all my unread books last year because I didn't want to buy books and have packages delivered to my home while in lockdown. So I think 23 is a good amount of unread books to have!
