I have to say how much I like your videos and your vibe. Idk but I feel like we're really friends and I'm just listening you talk in a normal day. Thank you for your videos!

I enjoyed this video, it was very interesting! You have such lovely bookshelves, of course. I need some more, myself...
I'm not going to count my books, partly because I am the daughter and the sister of librarians, and we all just love and accumulate books so much, it is too much effort to quantify the books.

Also, to be frank, my house has been taken over by boxes and stuff since both my partner's parents and my parents had to quickly sort and sell their homes in the last 3 years. And we were instrumental and essential in getting both the sorting and the selling done (with invaluable help from siblings and cousins)! Both of our sets of parents had A LOT of stuff squirreled away, and my family's credo is basically "waste not, want not". So actually getting rid of stuff is quite emotionally hard for us (yes, there are hoarding disorders). And then, due to multiple serious family heath problems (including mine and my partner's) there hasn't been time or energy to properly sort and clear out these boxes.

Finally, the books -- I've accumulated quite a few new books in the last 3 years, and my shelves are full, so a good number of books are stacked on the floor -- more than I thought!
I have sold some books in the last few years, but I would like to do a big sort of my older books, and move them out to open up some more shelf space...
I love books, and I'm excited to read the ones I've got that I haven't read yet, so I'm not concerned about getting rid of them at this time. Like you, I am going to reconsider some of my new book purchasing for now, but not shame myself for what I've done.

I’ve read 39% of the books on my shelves, so snap! - happy with that - love having lots of choice! 😊

You need to read A Scatter of Light by Malinda Lo! It's so good!!! Possibly my favourite YA this year. I still haven't been able to finish unpacking my books but it'll be interesting to see all my books again. I have bought a lot of books this year and not read many of them, I've been focusing on my library books!

I keep my unread books separate from the read books. my goal is to get rid of the shelf altogether and just use the library and read owned books right as they come in. it just sounds so freeing to me. last time I accomplished this was 25 years ago, lol. I hover between 50 and 75 unread books.

I don't know if this is something you would be interested in, but The Hexed Library has been playing a game with herself to get her physical TBR down to what she calls a manageable amount. And honestly I don't think your percentages are all that concerning since you say that you often get rid of books once you read them. I know she (Jess) is changing how she does it in 2024 but it is something you could check out if you were looking for ideas.

Also, if you are looking for a type of Mystery Series to check out, I love the Hannah Swenson series by Jo Ann Fluke. While there is an overarching story-line the books can be read in any order without giving much away. Maybe check one out of the library, physical or electronically, if you think you might want something that is a bit different.

You have to read one more non fiction to clean that number up 😂😂🙈

I still have sooo many books in boxes from when we moved in... over 2 years ago 🤦 I have just dropped down to one job so hopefully there will be time next year to actually organise the place. I could have sworn you read The Lost Ryu in a vlog!
Unrelated, but - where did you get that gorgeous hardcover of the Moth Keeper? I haven't been able to find it in store and I don't know if it's the library binding or the normal hardcover

Okay, I'll just get this bit out of the way first: I lost my library when I moved. I went from a two-bedroom apartment to a bachelor and have one medium sized bookcase left. So I had to make a lot of difficult decisions. I kept books that had sentimental value, or were difficult to replace. Otherwise, I just released the whole thing. It did not feel great! I wish it did. I will not be counting my hard copies bc I'll cry. lol Most of the unread books are kept are int three categories: spirituality (Anishinaabe religion and ceremony, local ecology, druidry), Palestinian folklore, and world folklore/tales. On Kindle, I have a staggering 463 unread books and around 60 read though. I really would like to read more.

This video is hilarious! No shame, ever. I've got 1, 958 unread books on my shelves, and I'm thrilled about it. Agreed, My Sister the Serial Killer is basically lit, but it does have "serial killer" in the title, so I think you should be a rebel, and keep that book in mystery! I loved that book, too -- such perfection.

So much fun, and so different from my shelves! 📚 I keep all my unreads on one little pile on a table in the living room; right now it has... 16 books on it, two of which I actually have read, but wanted to own and re-read so bought in hard copy (having read e-versions before). 🤣 I have found with the e-reader, I only buy hard copies of fiction that I either know I love or am very confident I *will* love based on the author... yet somehow my shelves are full. I do like the idea of being surrounded in my home with unread books, so I could kind of 'shop my own shelves' so to speak and find something to read next, but most of the hard copies I buy these days are non-fiction (which I'm less mood-reader-y about). ❤ Look forward to reading with you into 2024!

I don’t think it’s an issue if you intend to read them but if not then they need to be donated. And that is without including new purchases. Books are meant to be read and loved and not some artifice to fill a bookcase. Especially during a cost of living crisis.
