I loved that you've culled your read collection to such a sustainable number for both your total collection and your current tbr.

goals, honestly. I would look at my shelf and so many were books I haven't read, and so many of THOSE unread books were books I don't think the current me would even like. so I recently pulled out all of those books and now my shelves aren't overflowing and all my books fit? now I just have to…actually read my unread books. (I'm on a book buying ban for financial reasons so I expected to have made a dent by now but I haven't been reading AT ALL this year 😭)

Most of mine is nonfiction. I’m a history student so I go around in bookstores picking out books on topics I think I should know. This is my brain in a bookstore: “A book about the history of sugar, sure that might be important…oooh, a book about a failed arctic expedition. I’ve already read 5 of those, let’s see how people die in this one… huh, yeah sure, why not a book about Mozart. I want to see how much matches up with the Amadeus movie. Oh cool, a book about a Leper colony…. Okay. Need to pay and get the out before I drain my bank account.”

Love it! I do the same but I just did a count and I have 293 read books and 125 unread. I hope to get my numbers looking a lot more like yours once I read more and get even better at deciding what I need to keep after. :D

Oh my god I was starting to panic, comparing how many books you have vs how many I have (I have so many), but what you said about being overwhelmed makes sense! I really like having all my books, and that’s why I have so many. I rotate books out but really slowly, but I like having a lot of classics available for research or for re-reads and lots of nonfiction for my research, especially because it’s almost impossible to get media studies books from my local library.

I just counted! I used to have over a 100 but just through donating to family and moving houses I had less than 50 at one point but now I'm climbing back up. Im at 75 owned and only 4 have never been read. I try really hard not to buy books unless I know I'll read them multiple times so I stick to library books

I figured this the other day, I have 72 books and I think about 56 of them are unread. I just donated about 3 boxes of books to the library so I could get new ones to read

I do this method, I barely spent money this year on books compared to during covid-19. My spending has been legit went down on triples because of such

lowkey, I think more people should pare down their bookshelves like this, to include just the ones you love/are really excited for. It's something I personally aspire to, cause otherwise it can seem too materialistic and overwhelming to have so much STUFF lol. I did a recent count, and my entire collection is just under 200, with ~60/40 split of read/unread. Meanwhile, I just watched How to Train Your Gavin's physical TBR video and he came in at OVER 650 books of JUST TBR! Whoof! O_O

That's really not bad. I'm actually trying to do the same as you.

I own 5 moving boxes worth of books. I will start counting when my bookshelf arrives. 😅
